Terrible Version in 2015
on March 7, 2016
Posted by: WarrenSun
Unable to file directly in 2015, as needed forms including the very basis Form 1040 were not available in the TurboTax software. I needed to hand-write all of the forms myself to file to IRS. This 2015 version of TurboTax is unacceptable.
What's not so great: Does not update and download forms.

I have used Turbo Tax since its inception. Every year the interview method improves but it get harder for me to follow. I still prefer to see what is being entered into the appropriate forms as I go.
What's great about it: Great Interview method
What's not so great: Would like a manual option or form by form option

Very User Friendly

I have spent a lot of money over the years, paying hundreds of $$ to Certified tax accountants, out of fear of doing them myself. Turbo Tax makes it so easy. I saved lots of money and I got back the same amount, within a few dollars, as I did when the accountant did my taxes. So I can't imagine there would have been any difference if I had paid him to do them again, except for his large fee.
What's great about it: guild you through every step of the way
What's not so great: If you use the CD loaded program onto your computer, it does not save to the internet version of Turbo Tax

Ok when on the map

Turbo Tax is very easy to use for 99% of the information. When you have a 1% "off the map" situation where you need to do the calculations yourself, Turbo Tax refers you to the appropriate IRS pub which contains an explanation and usually a worksheet. I encountered one such situation for 2015 where I received state refunds for amended returns for tax years prior to 2014. I looked up the information from the prior years returns and used the worksheet in the IRS publication to calculate the taxable amount of the state refund.
What's great about it: Covers 99% of calculations
What's not so great: For 1% need to look up IRS forms instructions
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
