Turbo Tax does all necessary calculation to come up with the right answers and numbers
For households like ours you do not need a Tax Preparer .
E-filing is also easy and straightforward .

Basic Made Difficult Return Not Quit So

I was considering calling on a professional this year because of several unusual (for me) tax issues: capital gains on investments, depreciation recovery on home office sold. I bought the basic TurboTax counting on being able to upgrade while using basic or turning everything over to a tax pro. Turned out basic did everything I needed. The Colorado state return had a bunch of stuff I didn't understand; I coped by assuming that if I couldn't understand the problem, I didn't have it. One oddity I didn't follow up on was reporting purchases requiring use tax. After a couple of hours trying to quess what I owed use tax on, Turbo Tax congratulated me on saving $42. ??
What's great about it: Handled every strange tax problem
What's not so great: Colorado state tax was a little cryptic
Pros: I bought or sold investments, I moved

Stop the Annoying Upsales

Basic is back and does everything I need. The annoying messages to buy a higher grade of turbo tax are not needed.
What's great about it: Basic is all you need
What's not so great: The messages to buy additional services are annoying

Turbo Tax Basic had all the forms needed for all my rental, charitable deductions, capital gains, and sale of inherited property.
What's great about it: All the forms I needed
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Easy File

Turbo Tax provides the forms and calculations I need to file my return - which is a little complicated with Schedules A, B, D, and E
What's great about it: Transferred info from last year imported most of the detail needed to file this year.
What's not so great: Changes to format means I have to look for certain items to input

Even though I had to buy the basic edition for my personal taxes I also had to buy the business edition for a family trust that we have. I have had to do this for the past several years. I find the business edition easy to use and I can digitally send the K-1 to all trust members. I have been using Turbo Tax for over 10 years and have never been disappointed with the service that it provides.
What's great about it: Easy to follow instructions
What's not so great: Had to buy Basic and Business versions

Not bad!

I received numerous emails telling me to purchase TurboTax even after I had done so. Irritating!
What's great about it: Automatic downloads of forms from banks, etc.
What's not so great: Too many ads even after purchasing and using!
