Too much tech, not enough performance.

I bought this device hoping to use it for the wifi benefits. I wanted to wirelessly stream movies and video over my home network and from the SMART Hub apps.
I get about 16-17 Mbps on my laptops via wireless, so I figured this wouldn't be a problem. I was wrong.
Vudu's connection tests showed less than 1Mbps transfer on their service, which wasn't even good enough to get smooth video / audio in Standard Definition. YouTube videos get very choppy after the first 30secs of playback. I also noticed that this device gets very, very hot after trying to accomplish any of the above. This could be the cause of why things degrade after they've run for a little while.
The Media Play seems to have issues with PCs not running Windows7.
Keypress response on the remote is awful when using the Smart Hub. The use interface is way more difficult than it needs to be.
Disc loading was slow, but the picture was terrific. Upscalling on my DVDs was nice as well. Audio from the player was very good as well. My receiver had no issues playing back the audio. The disk player is very loud as well.
The Anynet+ worked very well. It would be very good for anyone with a Samsung TV and does not have a universal remote.
(I did have to deactivate the Anynet+ in order to allow my Logitech Harmony One to work properly.)
A good playback device, but just too much "fluff" added that is not "quality fluff". I wish companies would quit trying pack in tech for the sake of just being able to say they have it. If they intended SMART TV to capture all of the cool video possibilities available on the internet via laptop, the engineers should have designed a better/more effective cooling system for their processor.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Its not jam packed with great features...most are actually basic, generic features..I wish it had an internet feature where you can surf the web. The apps on the SmartTV menu are pretty boring and lack excitement....why they call it "SmartTV" when you have a very limited menu is beyond me.
Videos come in clear and crisp but the machine makes a sort of loud humming noise when a DVD is popped in...
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color, Lightweight
Cons: Did not meet expectations, limited smarttv menu, no internet surfing
I would recommend this to a friend!

Not So "Smart"

Purchased this machine to complement my new Samsung TV only to be astounded by the fact that his player, (or ANY Samsung product for that matter) is incapable of displaying subtitles for Netflix (et al), streaming movies and TV shows. (80% of which now have subtitles)
A slap in the face to 10 million hearing impaired Americans.
Hardly what I'd call "smart", but hey....guess you don't need or want OUR business.
I now regret both purchases and will rectify ASAP.
Pros: looks sleek
Cons: Did not meet expectations, cannot display subtitles on streaming media
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Really Falls Short

I purchased the BD-D5700 player because of how much I enjoyed my Blu-ray Disc™ Player (BD-C6500) and the expectation that I could access web pages (so I could watch videos from my church website and other sites). Sadly, I have had nothing but problems with the device that from all research are innate to the BD-D5700 itself. First, it does not access web pages (I really wanted that). Second, streaming netflix and allshare videos will choke and the video and audio loose synch. Third, I have even had the blu-ray palyer loose audio and video synch. Fourth, the system will choke so badly that even the menu takes many seconds to minuets to respond after a key press on the remote. The only way to recover is to reboot the system. I added an eight Gig USB drive in hopes that it might help but to no avail. Fifth, the menu is not appealing and not very intuitive. This all being said, when I watched the movie "Tangled" on blue-ray the depth was fantastic.
Pros: some blu-rays produce incredible depth.
Cons: Did not meet expectations, chokes or hangs up

SmartHub is a disappointing failure

dvd/blu-ray playback is superb.
However, I bought this for the SmartHub feature and it is an utter disappointment. It's poorly designed and is slow to respond when you press a button. Menu selections are sluggish and apps take too much time to load.
Netflix constantly freezes at the main menu; I've yet to watch a movie. I spent 3 hours downloading, installing, and re-installing the firmware updates to no avail.
SmartHub is a bust.
I'm returning this product tomorrow.
Pros: Lightweight
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Pretty on the outside, Not so pretty inside

I've had this player for about 2 months. I've used most of the features including blu ray, standard dvd, netflix and pandora.
SMARTHUB (Internet Apps, Netflix, etc)
The menu for these options is poorly layed out. Netflix is slow to load and has a messy menu interface (compared to Apple TV). Pandora has a bit of a difficult interface. Not as bad as Netflix but I find it easier to add playlists from my computer. (They update instantly to the TV.)
DVD
Blu ray is beautiful. Standard dvd picture is upgraded. Great picture, sound and functions. Works much better than any other thing on this player.
I feel like this player really isn't worth it's value. No sense in paying $200 for a blu ray player when all of its extra apps and services are designed so poorly. I would not recommend this or purchase it again.
Pros: Bright display, Durable, Realistic color, Lightweight, exterior design
Cons: Did not meet expectations, slow performance, smarthub poorly designed, poor value
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Very Disappointed

I have not had a satisfactory experience wiht this device. The first unit died (lost ability to connect to a network) after 3 days and had to be replaced. The front panel buttons often have to be pressed two or three times before the unit recognizes the command to e.g. eject a disk. Playback of blu-ray disks has jumps and hesitations. There is no way to control playback of an audio disk from the front panel (such as when I want to skip a track); you have to use the remote for everything. When using the internet features it is very slow to load, typically taking 40 to 50 seconds before the main screen appears. Then it is sluggish when running any app; there is significant lag after pressing a button on the remote before something happens on-screen. There are very vew apps available for this unit.
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations, poor user interface design, slow performance
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Terrible!

Just bought this and it freaks out all the time! You try to pause it, the pause button starts flashing and then it changes back to play. If it is processing it won't eject the DVD. It won't play streaming movies wirelessly (via netflix, hulu, or vudu), even downloading the lowest quality (360sp) play was extremely choppy with intermittent pause/loading pages every few minutes. Positive this has nothing to do with internet service. Our PS3 runs great! I wish we would have gotten another one instead!
Pros: Inexpensive
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations, does not function well wirelessly
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
