Unreliable Performance
on June 16, 2012
Posted by: Sputnik
Plays BluRay discs without too much trouble. However, it is difficult to get the tray to open or close - the touch activation is extremely unreliable. Connecting to NetFlix is also VERY unreliable - lots of problems in it loading, crashing, stalling, freezing, etc. I have to watch NetFlix on my computer many times because the Samsung does not work well with NetFlix.
Pros: Lightweight, looks nice
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations, unreliable netfix, unreliable disc drawer, insufficient memory, unresponsive to remote
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Wireless issue especially NETFLIX

I bought this almost a year ago DEC. 2011. Has worked fine with occasional Netflix glitches. Now it does not pick-up my wireless a lot!! or most of the time and netflix, which I primarily USE!! does not work or freezes. Its not NETFLIX, it's the DVD player. Don't buy it, not worth the aggravation for something that doesn't last a year.
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Samsung should stop selling this product. Because of this product, it is going to lose its loyal customers. Have been trying to install smart hub all day without any luck. After searching in the internet, it sounds like it is a very common problem. It is a shame that a company like Samsung still selling this product without a fix.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Worst wifi ever!

Had this player for about a year now and as far as dvd players go, its quite average. Nothing special but it does what its supposed to do. Now if you are trying to use it for the wifi capabilities such as streaming Netflix or Hulu, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. Everytime I try to watch netflix it either stops every five minutes or doesnt even play at all. Constantly loses internet conection and is extremely slow to load movies or shows. I also have a lot of wifi enabled devices around my house that dont have any problems what so ever, so it cant be said that its because of my wireless router. Bottom line, if your looking for a regular dvd player, save yourself some money and just get a dvd player. If your looking for a blu-ray thats actuallly functional, Then buy a different model or maybe even a different brand. Very unsatisfied with this product and regret the purchase.
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I should have never upgraded to Bluray.

Allow me one obvious statement: the picture quality from Bluray (BD) is gorgeous.
Unfortunately, Samsung allowed Hollywood to bully it around and take what could have been awesome technology, but instead, turned it into a series of frustrations.
Here's a list of what the features *don't* tell you: -Upgrade or no play. Because Hollywood treats YOU like a criminal, it's always updating its security layer on BD disks, and this means *YOU* have to upgrade before you can play it.
How many times did you do this on your old DVD player?
This player has an advantage with its built-in Wi-Fi. I feel sorry for those who don't have Wi-Fi and have to upgrade.
-Want to stop today and play tomorrow? Well, get ready to fast forward often because this player does *not* retain its last playback position if you: -Hit pause, then stop. -Open the drive door.
My last DVD player held memory of the last *six* titles it played.
-Twitter and Facebook applications you can *not* remove. Perhaps you feel this is a value add and think "It'll be nice to check up on things while watching TV."
Forget it, because all input is done through the remote. It takes approximately 3 seconds for EVERY SINGLE INPUT to be recognized by the player.
Don't even think about typing a message.
-Netflix! YES! Uh, no. Again, the remote, not the feature, is the culprit here. Trying to navigate through the specially-designed menus and queue is a nightmare.
-BDWise isn't wise at all. It's the dumbest technology I've ever seen. If I put in a DVD which features 480 resolution on a 1080 TV (which is also Samsung and designed with BDWise), I expect a 480 resolution image surrounded by black bars all around it.
Not with this player. Instead, it *always* outputs 1080p at 16:9 ratio as its "wisest" setting, which distorts the image so badly, it's difficult to watch. A movie with this setting is decent. An old TV show on DVD is not.
Depending on the DVD playing, you'll be manually adjusting the resolutions to fit your viewing pleasure.
Note: this does not apply to BD because it's 1080p at all times.
If this is the latest model Samsung has to offer and it's filled with this many annoying features, then it's crystal clear this technology isn't about customer satisfaction.
Samsung's televisions are beautiful and I recommend them to others.
I will never recommend this Bluray player to anyone.
Cons: bad applications, very poor memory retention, bdwise fails to be wise
