Wonderful, quiet and efficient washer

After doing research for months online and in person, I chose this Hotpoint 3.7 washer to replace my 25 year old workhorse of a washer. I think I chose well. I didn't want the hassle and expense of electronics and liked that this model had knobs, no gears, no HE bells and whistles, that you could stop the wash if you needed to, and that it was white rather than the new cold metal look. I also chose this for the plastic basket since my old model from a different manufacturer had that and I had no problems with it. I was leaning toward the porcelain ones but I know they can chip and rust, and the "steel" baskets did not appeal to me as I know they can be noisy and have seams. They don't look like steel but rather some kind of metal mix, so those seams could end up rusting. I read all the reviews and have concluded, as did some other reviewers, that the people that had problems with this machine, just didn't read the manual or follow directions. It is a quiet machine, and washes well. There are a few snaps and pops when cycles change but no biggie. I like that there's a variety of wash cycles, like PULSE and REGULAR. The extra rinse option is great too. It spins to nearly dry so my dryer cycles are shorter now and I save on electricity that way as well as wear and tear on my clothes in the dryer! For washing, the clothes should not be wrapped around the agitator, but balanced and folded into the washer. I set the water and while it's running, add the detergent (it's not HE but still doesn't need much) so it can mix, then gently add the clothes. It's a great washer and am super happy with it. The only thing I wish it had is a lint and debris catcher like my old one. If you've had problems with noise or grinding make sure you are not allowing it to run and only then adding the clothes. There appears to be a kind of sensor that can tell if there's no clothes (by weight?) and it will misbehave. That's what happened when the deliveryman ran it. Once I ran it with a load of clothes and the right amount of water and detergent, no noise and no problems! It's too bad they are discontinuing this and the other washers that are similar to the old timer ones. I feel they don't make the newer ones as well as the old style ones. It's all about "planned obsolescence " isn't it? But I will take care of this one as i did the old one and I am sure it will last me a good long while.

Didn't last 2 years and sound like a rocket

Bought the item and minus the rocket taking get off sound I was pleased because when noisy whining motor sound during spin cycle it was easy enough my kids could use.
However the fact it didn't make it 2 years really SUCKS! This was my 2nd new GE hydrowave in less than 8 years. Thought the first only lasting 5 was a fluke. Needless to say myou next purchase will not be GE. Very disappointed!

Worst washer ever!

I bought this product because it was a GE Appliance and I got a very good deal (I was so excited). When I purchased it I did not know that this product was no longer being manufactured. I can certainly understand why. I almost have to stand on my head to get the clothes out of the bottom of the washer. I have to use kitchen tongs to try and reach them (which is not at all easy since I have back problems). But not only did I purchase the washer, I purchased a 3 year extended warranty (which I normally never do).
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I replaced my WPRB8050D1WW and I am so disappointed in this new machine. It doesn't hold enough load, it doesn't fill with water, it doesn't get my husband's clothes clean, it's noisy, it takes too long to wash. No redeeming value!

It's cheap

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Although even the most expensive products may occasionally end up as lemons as did ours, because of the many moving parts in a washing machine and the urge to overload, it's best to purchase a good warranty in order to keep a cheap appliance running properly.
After many service calls, GE ended up replacing ours with a new one at no charge. Good for them!

Not used to the technology

I've only had this a few days so I can't attest to it's durability. It requires a learning curve, and so far it's a quiet unit. I do not like the fact that it's designed to, but will not allow you to, add more water.
