Samsung Model UN50HU8550FXZA --- Thumbs Up!!!

In my experience, Model UN50HU8550FXZA represents, the greatest and best change in picture appearance (real, brilliant colors, and resolution) and quality in a very, very long time (i.e., since changing from analog to digital). 4K/UHD is worth it and well implemented on this set: it's a new picture! - Just watch the 4K version of House of Cards on Netflix. UHD Upscaling WORKS!
The Smart Remote is cool. 3D is as good, or maybe even better, than in the theaters. Tons of features which work well and, for the most part, are intuitive. (See the Samsung brochure.) The Comcast XR2 remote and X1 set-top box work well with the 8550. Conversely, the Samsung remotes work well with the X1 box. Software updates are automatic and easy. The set's speakers, with its subwoofers, produce good sound in our 14'x16' room. The options/preferences are numerous, so it takes-a-while to find the correct submenu to choose/edit a particular feature, but it's worth it. I'm not a gamer, so no related-comment re: the 8550. Not to jinx anything - well done Samsung!

50" UHD

The TV is phenomenal. The picture is bright and crisp. We even had friends who described it as, "too real." We are enjoying it immensely. This isn't the TV I had originally expected to purchase. Once inside the store and we saw this TV versus the HD model we were expecting to buy there was no doubt. Yes, it's more expensive, but worth it.

This is a great TV, so clear with a beautiful picture. Finally a TV with sound you can hear.. Blu-ray movies are so stunning and real looking. What can I say, Samsung done a great job.

My experience is that this TV does what it is supposed to do, provide a great visual image. A TV has that sole objective. All of the other features are icing on the cake. The 3D is as good as I've seen. I use a receiver & blu-ray player to watch purchased Blu-ray movies & am pleased at the visual display. I do use HDMI 2.0 connectivity (not really necessary but I want as good a picture as possible). So given the available technology this is a great display. I expect that this is a bridging technology as OLED products come online over the next few years. Pricing is all over the board on this product so good luck.
I own several Samsung products & have been pleased with their reliability. This HU8550 replaces a 2012 D8000 also a great 3D product which was, & is an excellent TV, & used as in my bedroom.

I was amazed when the picture out of the box was as good as, or maybe even better than the display that was being looped at the store. The clarity is unbelievable.

Great picture and lots of inputs. Only negative is that the optional soundstand does not integrate well into the TV. It took a universal remote to control both the soundstand and the TV. It would have been nice if the TV showed or controlled the sound effects and settings on the TV. The only thing the TV does is shut off the soundstand, nothing else.
As far as the TV goes, there are is a huge amount of picture color controls, filters, etc., to get the picture quality perfect. The 4K feature is fantastic and for new technology, the price was good. Cant say enough about the picture quality. Also, for a thin set, the onboard sound is surprisingly good. Almost didnt need a sound bar or sound stand to go with it. Worth trying without it.
