I have purchased two of the OtterBox Cases as my wife and I both use the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 at home and at work. I use mine on the construction site and appreciate the improved feeling of control I get from the edges of the OtterBox and I also like knowing my Surface Pro is protected from bumps and scratches that it would normally be subjected to in such a rough environment. The OtterBox Edges are soft but hold the delicate hardware firmly in place with delicate precision, understanding that such a combination of brute strength and art comes with an unavoidable inconvenience in that to use the kickstand you have to work with two of the corners quite a bit. However, I would not want to sacrifice superior protection for a design that made using the kickstand more easily accessible. I use mine as a tablet mostly, but I keep the keyboard handy to use as a cover while driving.

I've been using the case for a few weeks, and it's already saved my Surface a couple of times. It's probably not at the same level of protection as Lifeproof (tm), but at the same time those cases are exorbitantly expensive for what they are, and can reduce the usability of the device by making it much wider/taller/thicker. The otterbox is slim while being sturdy and is excellent at absorbing fairly serious knocks and drops.

Hi,
So I'm a biologist and I sometimes work in labs and later on I'm going on a 1 week field trip. I'm very careful with my Surface Pro 3, but nonetheless, in the 6 months I had the device, it developed a few hairline scratches on the back. Nothing major, just annoying.
So I thought that Otterbox may provide a solution for my Surface to give it that durability boost I need.
the case is pretty o.k aesthetically. It looks like the pictures; a clear plastic tray with thick rubber pads. Not too bad, but not perfect.
The case does allow use of the Surface's kickstand, and the type cover is also theoretically protected. Both of these seem like more elegant solutions than the Otterbox's competitors.
However, some problems are soon apparent as soon as you try to use the case.
1, it's very difficult to actually use the Surface with the case. Even though the multiposition kickstand will allow you to use the surface at any angle, unhinging the lower front bezels, and later re hanging them are quite a chore. I'm almost worried I'll break the surface screen trying to pry them off. This means that you can't just flip out the kickstand on a whim, it takes a few minutes.
2, the type cover section of the case is fundamentally flawed. Even though the vast majority of Surface pro 3 owners will use the type cover with a pen loop for the Surface pen, there's no cutout for the pen loop in the actual case. This leaves no space on the device to actually store the Surface pen in any capacity, and will require me to rip off my pen loop in order to mount the type cover's case. A key flaw IMO.
Because of these problems I can't use the case on an everyday basis, which is a shame. When I know I'll need it, I'll go to the effort of properly putting it on, but it doesn't offer any protection when it's not even on the device! Ideally, it would be more user friendly.
Before buying this case, do a quick sanity check. Would you rather have this case for your Surface pro 3, or would you rather buy a 2nd, similarly priced Windows tablet that can just be for your rough work?

Great Product only wish there was a pen slot on it. I made it work but its not perfect.The Case is nice. The kickstand rubber keeps it secure however makes it hard to open some times. Better to have it on the Surface than not to.

I was disappointed when I received the case, I was expecting a full coverage rubber cover like by Galaxy 5, but this thing included much clear plastic that is already scuffed up. I guess it does protect the Pro 3, but not what I expected from Otter. I,m not hard on the Pro 3, but I use it in all kind of conditions and will most likely replace the cover if something better comes around.

Best cover so far. only problem is when using with Microsoft Dock for Surface PRO 3 & 4 (PN X001815DZN) the power cable does not fit unless you remove the bottom part of the cover

It's hard to open the lid. The silver button is difficult to use. And the kickstand part of the cover is very hard to snap over the back of the entire tablet if you aren't planning on using the kickstand.
