Had a Sony receiver years ago that had lots of problems with HDMI output and power protection mode, After purchasing an 4K TV Had to upgrade from Onkyo receiver that never gave me any problems and decided to give Sony another try. It turns itself on and off while watching a movie or changes input by itself, only had it for 4 months, called about warranty and was told that I had to pay to ship it to New York for repairs. What a waste of $500.00

Unit is ok. Not real simple to use. I still haven't set up the Internet which is the reason for purchase. Another reason was to get good reception for a radio station I like. At least this received knows it's there. Even if it is nothing but static!

Hi Bigmac61, Well, that's not the kind of experience we wanted to hear. Please, contact us at socialsupport@am.sony.com so that we could assist you. Thanks.
Was going to Rate a 3 star but gave it a 4 only because of HD tuner. Right out of box product would not stay on. Would shut down on its own during PS 4 play in between 20 to 60 minutes . and during use DVR also. Took back same thing with the replacement .

Hello stevee!, Thank you for sharing your experience with receiver and apologize for any inconvenience cause by this units. Normally when a receiver shuts off constantly once you have an audio input its due to the connection or wiring of the speakers, we would like to recommend to try the steps available through the following link:
Works well overall, the interaction with other 'smart' devices seems to confuse it at times (Samsung TV, Roku unit). It will sometimes drop out of Game mode into Cable/Sat. mode right after I start it up in Game mode with Roku running..

I have been using Sony AVR since 2001 and I have always been satisfied with the performance. I upgraded from STR - DE697 and my speakers have never sounded better. The sound quality is awesome and there is enough power to "make some noise". The setup was super easy and the graphical user interface (GUI) is the best I have seen. I have not had any of the HDMI issues (knock wood) that I have read about in other reviews. This is excellent value and I would recommend to every one.

you cannot use this without some type of screen plugged into the unit. at least i think so. calling Sony was a waste of time as getting to someone never happened. finally got it working. they have made this so complicated and yet in some engineer's eyes this is easy to use. i bought sony due to past experiences all being good. this was expensive and disappointing
