Works great until it doesn't work!!

The battery is not rechargeable, so when it dies, you have to toss it and buy another one. That doesn't make any sense. I had to download the driver a couple of different times, but when it worked, it was easy to use. But then the battery went out and there is not way to recharge it. Very disappointing.

Hello.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by our product. If you are still experiencing issues with low battery level, please make sure the printer is connected directly to a powered USB port on the computer. We do not recommend using USB hubs, as most of them are not powered. Using docking stations is also not recommended, even if they are powered.
Disconnect the USB cable, remove the battery and clean the silver connectors on the battery. Power cycle the printer by pressing the On/Off button 10 times and re-insert the battery. Connect the USB cable and charge it for at least 3 hours and see if it is possible to print.
If you have any more questions, please reach out to us via our website or through LiveChat. We’re available Mon.-Fri. 9am - 5pm Eastern Time.

Battery dies, printer becomes unusable
on July 17, 2022

Same problem as apparently everyone else here: initially works fine, and then at some point, the battery just doesn't charge anymore (yes, I did the cleaning of contacts, connect to a powered USB-port, etc etc, but nothing helps - and honestly, a well-engineered product would not need jumping through hoops like that). And the thing is unable to run directly from any sort of power supply, it requires its battery.

Hello Daniel.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by our product. We expect the best from our products and it seems, on this occasion, we have let you down.
If the battery indicator shows that it is at full charge, the printer should work. If the battery indicator shows that it’s empty, then the battery needs to be replaced. If the light flashes 3 times, pauses, and flashes 3 times again, this status means that the battery is being charged. Charge it for at least 3 hours and see if it’s possible to print. If the light is flashing rapidly the battery is not inserted, or the printer does not detect it. Double check if the battery sits in the compartment.
In the case of Windows, disable USB Selective Suspend Setting that prevents USB devices from being charged if a USB port is not active for some time. The setting can be disabled in Control Panel --> Power Options --> Change plan settings --> Change advanced power settings --> USB
If you have any more questions, please reach out to us via our website or through LiveChat. We’re available Mon.-Fri. 9am - 5pm Eastern Time.

OK printer
on September 19, 2021

The printer is OK, and although it will print on ½" labels, the maximum printable height is only ¼". So it doesn't print bigger than a ⅜" label printer does. I do like that I can use it on my Mac instead of dealing with a keyboard on the unit.
The big problem is the software. The font size control is very coarse with single digit from 7 to 14 points, but then it jumps to 18, 24, 36, 48, 64, & 72. And Auto fit and shrink to fit both seem to do the same thing and knock two line text to 8 points. The vertical centering changes when you print the label.
And while it is suppose to work with other software, such as a regular text editor, I haven't had any luck with that.
Basically, a decent printer but terrible software that gives you little control, opens with the window a bit narrower than it should be.

Hello, this is Kasia from DYMO Consumer Care. I am sorry that you experienced issues with our product. Regarding font sizes in the software, it is very important to set up the label size correctly, so that it matches the label size used in your printer. This set up enables managing the font sizes accordingly. When it comes to the use of LabelManager PnP with text editors, we provide add -ins with our software for MS Office. In order to use our printer with Office documents, you need to make sure that you have a DYMO add -in activated. Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to give our technical support team a call at 877-724-8324 Monday-Friday 9am-5pm EST as we will be happy to assist you. Super Mac Friendly - 4.5 Stars

I do a lot of research before I make most purchases, especially when I need them to work well with my Mac. This labeler was the perfect fit because: • it works beautifully with my Mac • does not require a power source • is lightweight, fast and quiet • variety of label material • able to use my favorite fonts I would like to see the ability to save different label settings in a future software update. Very happy!
Pros: Quiet, Works Quickly, Neat Settings, Simple Controls, Easy To Use
Cons: Unable To Save Settings

When it works it's good.

This is my third PNP Label Manager and it's such a crap-shoot as to if it will work or not. It is the easiest to use and prints quickly and good quality when it does print. However, the battery is a different story. I don't use this label maker often and the first year I kept it plugged in. I was told that was the reason the battery wouldn't work. I bought a new machine since the battery isn't that much cheaper. It worked fine out of the box and then I left it unplugged until I needed to use it and then it didn't work. The battery wouldn't hold a charge and so, two machines. This time I bought a battery replacement and nothing. It shows the battery isn't charged and it is. Then it it said the cable wasn't plugged in and it was, but I unplugged both ends of the cable and reinserted them. Back to the battery symbol showing it isn't charged. Crazy! So, three machines, and it won't work. I'm really disappointed because I've always liked the Dymo brand, but I can't keep buying new label makers every time I need to make a new label.

Hello, this is Vernie from DYMO Consumer Care. Thank you for providing your feedback for the LabelManager Plug N Play. We sincerely apologize our products have not met your expectations. Please make sure the printer is connected directly to a powered USB port on the computer. We do not recommend using USB hubs, as most of them are not powered. Using docking stations is not recommended, even if they are powered. Please try disconnecting the USB cable, removing the battery and cleaning the silver connectors on the battery. Power cycle the printer by pressing the On/Off button a few times and reinsert the battery. Connect the USB cable and then check the status of the blue light: •Solid light: the printer does not take charge. The battery is fully charged or it is not able to take any more charge. If the battery indicator shows that it has a full charge, the printer should work. If the battery indicator shows that it’s empty, please replace the battery. •Light flashes 3 times, pauses and flashes 3 times again: this status means that the battery is being charged. Charge it for at least 3 hours and see if it’s possible to print. •Light is flashing rapidly the battery is not inserted or it is not detected by the printer. Double check if the battery sits in the compartment. Do note that it is hidden beneath a plastic cover. If it’s not detected, the problem may be caused by a battery or a printer failure.
In case of Windows, disable USB Selective Suspend Setting that prevents USB devices from being charged if a USB port is not active for some time. The setting can be disabled in Control Panel --> Power Options -->Change plan settings --> Change advanced power settings --> USB

Can't use 3/4
on August 2, 2011
Posted by: Anonymous
from Washington, DC
This item can't be used with 3/4" labels. I needed to print some names for nametags and didn't realize until it was time to use it that I could only use the smaller size labels. It's great that it can print any font with your computer which is why I bought it. Bad that other products don't do the same that use the 3/4" labels I need.
Pros: Works great with PC, You can use any font
Cons: Uses only small labels

This item doesn't appear to be compatible with Windows 7. I've tried to install the software that's located inside the product, and I also downloaded both version located on the website, none of which have worked. Return the product tomorrow, even though it is a very long drive.
