Great Product, Bad Battery Design

I purchased this and in less than 1 year the "rechargeable battery" went dead and will not charge even while plugged into a powered USB port. Even tried a new USB cable and multiple computers to attempt to correct this problem. CHAT with tech support and the only option they gave me was I have to purchase a new battery from them at more than $25 plus shipping. AA batteries would be cheaper, but I do not have that option available to me. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT. After the tech support I received you may also want to consider another brand.

Poor battery design

The printer doesn't work without battery. Despite the fact that it's connected to the PC USB port and it's powered on. If the battery dies, you'll have to spend more than 50% of the total costs to buy a new battery. A no-go.

Replacement batteries MIA

I appreciate DYMO's honesty in allowing poor reviews. I was happy to receive this label maker used. But now I am searching high and low for a battery pack. Not only is it pretty expensive at $26. but it is out of stock. And it is not available anywhere else; believe me, I have looked. DYMO, if you're listening, I would recommend making this battery optional instead of dependent.

I did love it!

I had this around 2 or so years. Now it tells me the battery low and will not charge. My issue is they want 30.00 for new battery pack when it is 60 to buy! I would pass on this one.

Takes labeling to the next level
on May 12, 2012

I've used several labelers in the past and was never quite satisfied. I'll be using this one for a long time. Fortunately, I do nearly all my labeling at my desk, so the lack of portability of this model is a drawback. That said, it requires no power source other than the USB cable. So it is lighter weight than battery-operated models. If you wanted to put it in your laptop bag, it is compact and light weight, but comes at the price of requiring a computer to use it. As a labeler, it is awesome. It prints faster than any other model I've used. I can use any font on my computer and can preview the label on-screen. The interface tells me the label length, so I know the label will fit before wasting tape only to find out it doesn't. A very promising but tricky feature is the ability to import images. It's easy to use, but hard to make useable. It is extremely low resolution, so photos are almost useless. (They look like a photo from a newspaper that's been xeroxed, then sent through a fax machine). The secret to making this feature useful is to select very simple, high-contrast images. Images that look like the dingbat characters available on most computers work well; things like hearts, diamonds, arrows, or bullet-point characters. Since you can use these special characters easily, try them first before importing an image that may not print well. The ability to use special characters is one way I've used to reduce the amount of tape I use. Combined with color-coding tape colors, special symbols are a highly recognizable shorthand for locating file folders that saves money too. Speaking of tape, this labeler uses the D1 line of tapes. While not stellar quality as a line, the High Performance (flexible and permanent) types of tape are excellent. The flexible tape is fantastic for labeling computer cables. The permanent tape does not (so far) suffer from the coming loose after a few months on some surfaces.
Pros: Works Quickly, Neat Settings, Know length in advance, Highly customizable
Cons: Not portable USB cable

Very Unhappy

Just arrived and was ready to start labeling and having multiple print problems as well as winding problems with the included cartridge.
It is not working properly out of the box. Software installed on my Mac with no issues. However, when I print on a white label it doesn't print properly. Letters are missing or the word looks weird. Additionally, the cartridge will not rewind per the included instructions (included cartridge with the purchase will not rewind).
I have been through about 3 to 4 feet of tape with no change.
Pretty unhappy with this unit. It looks cool and installs easily but the labels are unsatisfactory as they come out of the printer.

I apologize that you have experienced problems printing with your LabelManager PnP. Based on what you have described I would recommend cleaning the print head. There is a small cleaning tool on the inside of the label door. Use the soft side of the cleaning tool and thoroughly wipe down the print head- located directly across from the roller. This should resolve your printing issues however, if not, I would say it sounds as if you may have received a faulty cartridge and recommend trying to print with an alternate cartridge. If you are still experiencing issues printing please do not hesitate to give our technical support team a call at 877-724-8324 Monday- Friday 8am- 6pm EST as we are more than happy to troubleshoot your device.

Rechargeable battery dies, rendering unit useless.
on August 16, 2018

I've had this LabelManager not even a year, using it a handful of times per month for naming new file folders. I liked its PnP functionality and the basic software perfect for issuing file labels. Today it stopped working and cited "battery not charging" on the software, even though it's supposed to be a rechargeable battery. I've always been mindful of turning off the unit when not in use, so I can't understand how this battery is dead. The cost of a replacement battery is outrageous considering the cost of the unit, why would I invest in a rechargeable battery with such a limited life span, and why isn't the USB plugged into a computer enough to power it? Now I have a useless product without it. I wish I had researched the reviews before purchasing this unit. Not happy, DYMO.

Terrible product due to battery design

I had this label maker for about a year when the battery went bad. As others have mentioned once the battery fails you are out of luck unless you want to pay an unreasonable amount for a new battery. Even if you follow the battery care instructions it will fail in too short of a time. Should have been designed to accept disposable batteries or an alternate plug in power source. Bad enough that the labels cost so much but now I have to pay for a battery if I want to keep using the product.
