Once the battery goes bad, the unit cannot be used

I feel ripped off. I purchased 3 of these for 3 locations. When the internal battery dies, the unit cannot print. Even when plugged in, I cannot use the unit until I replace the battery.

Battery depleted = need to buy LabelManager
on September 15, 2021

Once the battery is depleted, you might as well throw away the entire device, since a replacement battery is priced near the price of the initial device. The device will not work without the battery, even if it is plugged in.
The lifetime of the battery is low. It will not charge, even if the remaining capacity should lend itself to charging.

Hello

Regarding issues with your LabelManager PnP battery, I recommend trying the following steps:
1. Make sure the printer is connected directly to a powered USB port on the computer.
2. Disconnect the USB cable, remove the battery and clean the silver connectors on the battery.
3. Power cycle the printer by pressing the On/Off button a few times and reinsert the battery.
4. Connect the USB cable and check the status of the blue light:
- Solid light the printer does not take charge. The battery is fully charged, or it is not able to take any more charge.
- The light flashes three times, pauses and flashes 3 times again. This status means that the battery is being charged. Charge it for at least 3 hours and see if it’s possible to print.
- Light is flashing rapidly. This means the battery is not inserted or it is not detected by the printer. Double check if the battery sits in the compartment. Do note that it is hidden beneath a plastic cover.
5. In case of Windows, disable USB Selective Suspend Setting that prevents USB devices from being charged if a USB port is not active for some time.
The setting can be disabled in Control Panel --> Power Options --> Change plan settings --> Change advanced power settings --> USB.

If you have any more questions, please reach out to us via our website or through LiveChat. We’re available Mon.-Fri. 9am - 5pm Eastern Time.

Once battery dies, so does the machine

The battery is not able to charge it on USB powered. I've checked the battery and it's charged. I've tried in multiple PCs. I've cleaned the battery. Still doesn't charges. And the price for new battery is ridiculous.

Same problem as everyone else
on August 13, 2022

Battery stopped working, same problem as everyone else. Whenever I try to print a label it says need charging. Honestly Dymo should pay back everyone that wasted their money on this, it's obviously a known problem and a new battery is expensive.

I found a solution to the blocking of the printer
on August 5, 2022

This worked for me: I took out the battery, it measures 7.6 V without load, and app 7.4 with load. The speck on the battery is 7.2, so - as an electronic engineer whit big experience in embedded constructions - maybe the battery level is to high to be read by the sw, and there is a register overflow and the reading becomes negative ??. I removed the battery from the printer, placed a 100 Ohm 1W resistor over the poles, and secured the resistor with a rubberband. Checking the resistor got heated up, app 40 C. Placed it outside on a concrete ground. Next morning the voltage level on the battery was app 0.4V. I returned the battery to the printer, plug it into my PC, and there the charging sign shows up on the battery in the printer select picture at the bottom, after app 3 min it prints again.
It is af SW bug !

Hope the battery doesn't die

if the battery dies you can't use the labeler. It is a specialized Lithium Ion battery and I can't find a replacement. Buy a different model that doesn't have this limitation.

Great plug-n-use compact label maker
on February 10, 2023

I purchased the DYMO LabelManager Plug N Play Label Maker 5 - 10 years ago with various colored label making tapes. I thought something was wrong when I recently tried to use it since it wouldn't turn on. After reading a lot of reviews I thought the battery was the problem and my old unit would never work.
I charged it with an Anker 30W charger overnight and it works like new. I am very pleased with the quality of the labels again on my M1 MacBook Pro running Ventura 13.2 OS.
