The product does not last; battery does not retain its charge. I have reinstalled the software MANY times. It was nice in the beginning but I expected better. The concept of a battery operated product that is supposed to be USB powered doesn't make sense to me.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

About batteryproblem

The battery in my LabelManager worked for about 2 years. Instead of buying a new very expensive original replacement battery i just bought a standard rechargable 9V battery (6LR61, 6LF22 or PP3). The battery plus side should be far inside in the LabelManager (look at the original battery where plus and minus are). The LabelManager wount break if you accedenty mount the battery the wrong way, I have tested... 20 mm foam rubber will hold the new battery in place.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Dymo plug and play

Battery dead at 2 years. The unit is constantly plugged into the computer in my office. Why is there a need for battery in the first place? The battery is apparently dead now and despite being connected to power source via USB, the unit is unusable. I am not going to buy a new battery at nearly the cost of the whole unit, and it will go into trash unfortunately. It was nice while it lasted. I would have hoped it would last longer. Was used very sparingly.

Bad Battery

The unit worked well initially and I was very happy with it. The poor rating is due to battery issues. After 2 years, 9 months of ownership the battery would not take a charge, rendering the unit worthless. The battery failure was with light usage. I only used the LabelManager PnP a few times. I was only on my second label cassette, the cassette that came with the unit and then a 23' roll, when the battery failed. Based on the extent of posted reviews that cite battery issues, it appears that the battery is the Achilles heel of the LabelManager PnP. Purchasing a new battery is prohibitively expensive to compared the cost of the LabelManager PnP. Dymo needs to provide a high quality battery or replace the battery with a plug for a 7.5VDC adapter. I plan to modify my LabelManager PnP to power it from an external 7.5VDC adapter

Anytime you are not using a unit constantly and there are months in between uses, it is suggested that you remove the battery so that it does not drain and become defected. Nice product - seems to have some issues although

Works out of the box - as promised - with the built in Mac software. However, the larger app from the Dymo website, with the newest software, does not work well with my Office 2011 and newest MacOS Yosemite: I can write in Word - but nothing comes out in the labels. The formatting in Word is very hard to understand, as the user can't se how it will look on the labels. I was hoping for a smooth integration from e.g. Word, but the most reliable thing seems to be to use the installed "Light" software that works as expected and seems to be fine for simple labels, which is what I uses most. I have removed the Demo printer software from the computer, as it seems to collide with the build in software (on the Dymo unit itself). Then things works fine.
Another curious thing that I did not know before I got the unit, is that there seems to be a weak link in the functioning of the product: The quite expensive battery needs to work always, otherwise it can't print. I don't understand the technical stuff of why there is a need for a expensive - and not very ecological - battery - but this should be clearly marked on the product description and package.

DO NOT BUY - BATTERY ISSUE

I have barely used this device but the expensive proprietary battery is dead. Also the device intermittently shows up and then disappears, probably battery related again. Nice overall concept, really poor, poor engineering. I will never buy another product from this company it's a waste of money

Battery is a problem

This is a great product as a labeller that you can use on your computer. The only drawback is when your rechargeable battery dies, you are better off buying a new printer. Difficult and expensive to find a replacement battery
