Great For Recreating the Past from Old Negatives
on April 3, 2017

Purchased this scanner so could scan a large amount of old b/w larger format negatives. Would have cost a fortune to have them scanned professionally. This allows me to scan using my own settings, and with the use of photo editing software, I am getting decent family pictures off of negatives 70+ years old. Don't know where or what happened to a lot of the original photos, so being able to reproduce these is priceless!

I bought this scanner primarily to scan a bunch of 70-year-old 120 film negatives. The scanner was easy to set up and is doing a fantastic job scanning the negatives. I'm sure it will do equally well with other negatives, photos, and documents.

I have had this scanner for almost a month and because of a project had to scan hundreds of photos. I have been pleased with the quality of the scans as well as the Epson software that is supplied with it. I did get the attachment for wet scanning but have not used that as yet.

Transitioned easily from previous scanner

I had a fair amount of scanning experience over the years, scanning medium- and large-format film positives (transparencies) with a Microtek i900 scanner. When it stopped working about 4 months ago the only affordable scanner I could find that will do 8 x 10" transparencies was the Epson Perfection V800. I ordered it and it arrived quickly. In no more than 1-1/2 hours I unpacked it, read a bit of the instructions, and decided to try it on an 8 x 10". I was a little confused about what input to give it, but even the first one turned out great. The colors were a bit faded on the original, but I hardly had to correct it after scanning it. I've done 5 x 7", 4 x 5", and 6 x 7cm transparencies on it many times now. I still have to clean up some dust and scratches, but the fast-warm-up surprises me every time. I should read more of the instructions but haven't hit enough snags to make me do so!

I bought this to scan my old 35mm slides. It exceeded my expectations. I was able to capture the color and resolution of the originals and now have them preserved digitally.

The best!

My Epson V800 is about five years old and one of the best purchases I've ever made. Worth every penny. In my photo restoration business, I work with 4"x5" vintage negatives. Newer photo scanners accommodate film strips, but not larger negatives, so when my old scanner died, I was in a panic. Then I found the Epson V800, and I was in business again. Epson makes the only large-negative scanner. I confess, I don't use film holders; I put my photos and negatives right on the glass (carefully!). The V800 software is fine for everyday stuff, but I do my corrections with Photoshop. For professionals, I recommend this as the only way to go. The results are the best, never disappointing. My customers rave about the "new" prints they get after I've scanned their old, faded negatives and photos. I LOVE my V800 and recommend it to professionals, enthusiasts, and amateurs.
