Great washer, quiet. The design of the detergent draw wasn't thought out well. If the draw is open and the washer door is opened it scratches the chrome around the door.

Laundry comes out cleaner with less detergent residue. Large items, like comforters, can be laundered in this machine.

I wish the door could open on either side, or at least it was pointed out to you in the manual.

My wife and I knew our old washer was wearing out so when it finally gave up the ghost we took the plunge and bought a matching pair. The built in pedestal's attracted me to these two but it was the color, fire engine red for gosh sake, that sealed the deal. Oh, and the large capacity and extent features were a bonus I did not anticipate. We also switched to gas for the dryer, something I would recommend to everyone.

I waited until I had the machine for a while to write a review. Have it now for a little over 5 months. Yes, the front loaders have longer cycles than the top loaders, but this one also has a speed cycle setting. I like the fact that despite of pre-programmed standard settings for each cycle, you can adjust certain things like temperature and the type of spin that you think you would need. I picked this particular model out despite that it is way more than I need in the capacity, but it has the most features of all the varieties of this type of GE washer. I can still set it on "single item" or "delicates". It is quiet (also, the fact that you can turn off the signal is a big plus for me; you can't do that on some of the latest competitor models) and water efficient. I saw some reviewers complain about water remaining in the detergent dispenser, but this is pretty common again with all front loaders that have a designated dispenser. I had a front loader duo prior to this (a competitor brand, without pedestals), and they served me 13 years. I decided to try this GE model because we have a slight step down in the place where the washer and dryer sit with a drain in case of a water overflow, so a washer and dryer with pedestals were useless to us, and I didn't want to pay extra for the slightly raised non-drawer pedestals option on the competitor models. The fact that this GE duo is already elevated through the design, was another winning point for me. I still haven't played with all the features, but the clothes wash great (and I use the cheaper detergent) and the rubber protector on the inside of the basin is very solid and easy to clean if needed. Also, I don't have any problem with the drain on the front. You can clean it as often as you think you need (they recommend once a month, but the installer said no need to do it so frequently), just be ready with a bowl to catch the run off as soon as you unscrew the cover. Again, it is normal for this type of a machine and it is a much more easily accessible feature than on many competitor models. I've gotten into a habit of wiping the door dry and keeping it open when not in use with my previous front loader. If you do this, the machine will perform great for years.

I'm not convinced that this is a great washer. The cycle takes forever and it doesn't ever smell fresh.
