I have had Fellowes shredders for many years. Recently one of them had a screw come loose in the gear box and broke a tooth off a plastic gear. I now had one shredder, so I decided I would get another one to replace the broken one a DM8C model. I selected the PS-12C. it was much more powerful than my old one but twice as loud. I called support and they sent a new one which was not quite as loud but still louder than my old machine. I shred a lot of paper and the 12C handled it much better than my old one, albeit much louder. I oil the blades each time I empty the basket. The basket can cause a big mess if you don't watch it and empty it often. I really like the looks of the new machine and the safety features.

SURPRISINGLY LOUD

I purchased this shredder to replace a Royal SC120. So far, the operation of the shredder has been completely satisfactory. The "pull out" waste can tends to be messy sometimes, but it is the same with all shredders of this design. I would rather deal with the mess than lift the shredding mechanism off and having to place is safely somewhere while emptying a traditional waste can. I am a bit surprised with how much louder this shredder is than my previous one. I am HOPING it is louder because it has a more powerful and durable motor. But, all in all, so far so good. I haven't had any issues.
Pros: Quality Construction, Safety Features, Secure Cut Size, Jam Resistance
Cons: Mess Reduction, Quiet Operation

I purchased my P12C in March 2012 and enjoyed consistent performance until June 2013 when the unit unexplainably began making a screeching noise and eventually stopped shredding. And yes, I regularly lubricated it with Fellowes oil or canola oil. The Fellowes organization quickly addressed my online inquiry and provided a replacement unit, even though the warranty expired. Thank you, Fellowes. My advice if anyone cares is that if you have a ton of old paperwork to shred, you may want to invest in a one-time expense for professional large-scale shredding. Then use the P12C to maintain your normal daily shredding needs.

Cons: like any machine maintain maintain maintain.

DO NOT BUY A FELLOWES PS-12CS

I bought a fellowes shredder little over a year ago. The caseings that held the blades broke. I called the company. After I told them I would never buy another fellowes shedder they sent me a replacement. This one lasted a month until the switch broke. I called to see if they had a replacement switch I could purchase. They had told me the replacement they were sending me would be with no warranty. I understand why now. There are no parts for this machine and they advised me to just trash it. Which I did. Both of them. So if you are thinking about buying a fellowes shredder think again. I only use this shredder in my home. I will be buying another brand.
Cons: does not last, company hard to deal with

Poorly Designed!

I purchased this shredder last fall and it has been a mess to use since I got it. The draw overflows when removed, it 's noisy and just stopped working. I took it apart and discovered that the internal shredding mechanism has self destructed! The plastic housing has come apart, broken where screwed together.
I paid good money for this shredder and it couldn't even last a year. At least when I buy a new shredder, I will not have to be constantly vacuuming the room where I use it.

I really like it but.............

I purchased this shredder about a year ago. Recently we came home from a week long vacation and it was running by itself. I unplugged it and let the motor cool down - which was very hot. Subsequently I was advised that the photo eyes that allow the machine to automatically stop and start had become blocked (dirty). Customer Service walked me through a number of steps and none worked. Fellowes replaced the machine with a new one. Outstanding customer service!

Worked Fine Until...

P-12C working fine for about 1 1/2 months. Then for some reason, when the CONTROL SWITCH was moved to "I" it would run in REVERSE; couldn't feed/shred anything. Something must have slipped or broke. Customer support was excellent and replaced the entire unit in less than a week--didn't have to ship back the bad unit. Only quirk: occasionally, the bin tends to slip out about 1/8" which shuts down the unit; not sure why. Probably due to some paper slipping in between the end of the bin and the unit wall. Not quiet, but I didn't buy it for that. Cut size could be smaller.
