Great Prints
on December 8, 2011

I have had the R3000 for a few days and it was simple to setup on my home network and it instantly recognized the network. The prints are crisp and bright and I was amazed at the quality. Well worth the money.
I have only one concern about the R3000. When I printed my first photo, the photo black cartridge was reduced by about 25%. I contacted support and they advised me that it is normal for a lot of ink to be used on the initial first use and to keep an eye on the ink levels. I have now printed six 8X10 and the levels have not been reduced by a large amount. I will continue to monitor the ink levels. I would highly recommend this printer to anyone who is serious about creating great prints. The cartridges are a bit pricey.

Second time around

I am a professional photographer selling my original outdoor art/photography at 16 or so shows a year. I also print for 60 other artists and photographers. Printing small work is painful on my bigger (44") Epson printer.
The 3000 is perfect for all the smaller work including cards, magnets, etc. The colors are an excellent match for those in the big printer and the settings are similar, so that it makes a good test bed even when I am intending on a much larger print.
The larger ink supplies and the lower amount of fuss switching between matte and photo black make this machine far superior in cost and time to Epson's lower-level machines. The lower cost and ease with small material make it superior to the mid-range (17 inch) machines.
I chew these babies up every 2-3 years, working them to death. So I have pronounced my satisfaction by buying another one of the exact same kind (repair guy is coming to revive the first one tomorrow).
PS--stay away from the manufacturers who would sell you a dye-based product or something failing to absolutely be able to match your camera's color profiles--I won't mention any names. We match Epson printers, inks, and papers/canvases and get a guaranteed fine result.

R3000 - Powerful Printer in a Small Package
on June 27, 2013

I purchased the R3000 to temporarily replace my 24" Epson 7890 that was destroyed in Hurricane Sandy. Until I move to my permanent studio and I know what space I will have to accommodate a larger Epson printer, the R3000 is filling in for my art.
I print on aluminum as well as paper for my art; so I need an archival pigment printer that holds up to the rigors of my printing needs. In almost every way, the R3000 rivals my 7890. It's 13 x 19 paper limit and 13" roll feed forces me to print in sections but that hasn't hampered me. It uses the same pigment inks as the 7890 in smaller cartridges; so while they are used up quicker, the cost to replace spent inks is far less expensive.
I started using the wireless feature of the printer but print times were very slow and on those days of bad wifi connections, impossible. So I now use the USB connection which is very fast. I haven't noticed any slower print times from my 7890.
Print quality is excellent. I see no appreciative differences from the larger pro models.
My only criticism is the roll feed. The lack of a spindle on the roll paper holder doesn't allow for the use of rolls less than 13" and the ends that hold the paper roll are flimsy and don't attach sturdily to the printer. My aluminum rolls only come in 12" widths. I was able to insert a PVC pipe into the roll paper holder ends which has worked, but it's less than an acceptable workaround. Epson has no plans on developing a spindle for the roll feeder either. While the R3000 certainly doesn't cost as much as their pro line, it's price would dictate a better approach to roll feed.
All in all, the R3000 is a great printer and will become a nice adjunct to my studio once I purchase either a 17" or 24" Epson.

R3000 - very nice
on July 14, 2014

I'm about a month in on ownership now and can write that the R3000 meets my needs perfectly. Epson service was their usual great in helping me to set up the wifi connection, and I was up and running within an hour. 30 days later, I can show beautiful color prints, working digital negatives for alt process printing and even perfect DVD labeling. The price was reasonable (I did get it with a rebate) and while the first batch of ink gets pretty much eaten priming the printer, I've only had to replace one of the black cartridges - and that's after printing about 30+ color 11x17 images.
I'm quite satisfied with no complaints. I can recommend it wholeheartedly.

Nice printer which replaces my Epson photo 1800. I ran a couple of photos both black and white, and color. Very nice job and to date I am very happy with it. The ink cost much more than the ink for the 1800 but it appears the ink container is larger, so maybe more ink which would be nice.

Dreadful waste of time and money!

I bought the R3000 to replace my R2400 when it finally died after several years of excellent service. The R3000 prints beautifully when you can get it to print correctly!
This thing goes through more paper and ink than any other Epson printer I have ever owned because it either ruins the paper as it passes through or it spits so much ink all over the image that it has to be tossed. I'm a professional photographer selling a lot of prints, and this thing has cost me more money than it has made me. No wonder it has been discontinued in such a short amount of time! It's WORTHLESS!
