Ink settings
on April 26, 2012

There is no printer setting for 360 dpi. It goes from draft to 720. Draft is very sketchy. I know this is the compensation for the beautiful high dpi available but for everyday printing, 720 dpi will use a lot of that very expensive ink. I didn't find this info in any of the specs or info prior to buying the printer.

Only buy if you have money to waste

The feeder on this printer is problemic to say the least. If you only print on copy paper or standard size photo paper, fine, but if you want to print on Epson recommended matte papers and notecard papers STAY AWAY. You should save yourself some money and buy a cheaper desktop model.

Software for Mac

Have not been able to try new printer as I am unable to find the correct driver for the latest Mac OS 10.10.2 Yosemite.
My new R3000 is not in the mac list either in Epson support or the latest Mac update.
Very frustrated.
Had to give it one star because of this!

Second R3000

I owned my previous R3000 for about 2 1\2 years before it started randomly dropping scattered droplets of black ink on my photos. It gradually started dropping more ink on more frequent pictures until I had to purchase a new R3000. The print head or print controller is obviously not properly designed or manufactured because I read other reviews online with similar experience. The cost to repair, according to local authorized repair shops is prohibitive, in fact one shop refused to repair it at all. The printer when working is fantastic. However, for the cost of the printer I think Epson should have had a recall or a less expensive way to repair rather than customers needing to replace. Talk about a waste of the earth's resources.

Just getting starting

Just starting to give the printer a sufficient test run. Not disappointed currently. One thing I did notice is when picking from the 3 settings of quality; Speed, Quality or Max Quality.....I see a significant difference from quality to max quality. In other words, the only true way to get a quality picture is to use the max quality setting. Not sure why anyone would want less that an outstanding print? I guess I expected the 'Quality' setting would be the default and 'Max Quality' would be for the prints heading for a frame, etc. Choices are good to have if a draft needs to be printed, but otherwise I miss the reason for wanting less than acceptable results. Superior results is the main reason why I chose to buy this particular printer initially. I am, otherwise, extremely happy currently and look forward to years of use. Lastly, the software to print on CDs is awesome.

Excellent photos. The only problem I have experienced is problems handling 8 1/2 X 11 Photo paper. It stops feeding about 2/3 of the way through and I have to help it. Otherwise I would give it 5 stars.

Beware limitations on paper types
on February 27, 2013

I purchased this printer to augment my Stylus Pro 7900 -- so I could print smaller sizes, greeting cards etc. I spent hours trying to get the printer to feed the Inkpress 7x10 greeting cards -- sometimes it would load and print, but mostly it just spit out the paper. Now, after 30 min. on the phone with tech support, I have learned that the main top feeder can't take paper stock over 10mil. What?! Most quality photo stock is >10 mil.
If all you want to do is print 8.5 x 11" or larger paper, this printer is great -- when the paper does feed, the print quality is exceptional.

Stylus Photo R3000

Installation CD does not work over USB-1. A call to tech service quickly resolved my setup issue by using an initial network set up. If you are a little network savvy and know your SSID and password, just go ahead and set it up wirelessly from the beginning (contrary to instructions) if wireless is the way you want to use the printer. This can easily be done directly from the keypad on the printer. The recommended "USB initial setup" can get clumsy in a hurry given the size and weight of this printer and the need for your own reasonably long USB cord. First pictures were great. That's why I splurged for the extra bucks on this high-quality machine. No more fussing and wasted paper and ink with off-color prints.
