Evaluation of the Epson stylus color 3000 printer

This printer is a good compromise between the lesser color printers and the higher priced professional printers, and is therefore suitable for the hobbyist digital photographer. The installation was easy until I was asked whether I wanted to download an upgrade to the drivers. After agreeing and downloading the upgrade, the printer failed to work right until I uninstalled it and reinstalled it with the original drivers.
The print quality is excellent and a significant improvement over other printers using 4-6 color cartridges. It allows for high quality large format photographic prints as well as smaller prints. The availability of roll feed of print paper is useful for photostitched mural size products.
I cannot comment on the durability of the ink cartridges, as I have only made 30 or so prints at this stage, but others have said that it uses ink prolifically.
I am using it with a variety of papers from different manufacturers and it does a good job with several. This printer benefits from taking the photos with a higher quality digital camera, rather than a single lens pocket camera.
Photoshop Elements does not provide automatic color correction for this printer or for a variety of papers. If the Photoshop CSS product has these corrections, the result may be better than can be obtained with Elements alone.
Overall, I would recommend this printer as a step up from lower priced printers as it is reasonably priced and well worth the additional money.

Epson R3000

This printer was easy to set up and does a great job of my daily printing. I had hoped to do a great deal of printing on fabric. So far the color output is inferior to my Epson 2200. The fabric printing was the main reason to purchase a printer with a multitude of ink colors. I'm not sure if the problem is the printer or the software or my computer. I do know I did not have this problem of accuracy with the 2200.

I have used Epson printers for several years and used a R1800 before upgrading to the Stylus Pro R3000. I just purchased my second R3000 for use in another location. The R3000 is excellent in every way. The print quality, both in color and B&W is great and the fact that this relatively compact printer can handle 13 inch wide paper allows me to prepare prints for camera club competition easily. My friends also appreciate the prints that I prepare for them as gifts and wall hangings. Paper handling with front loading is also available.
The only downside is that the inks are expensive and experimentation with paper types/finishes can be costly.
I would definitely recommend this printer for the advanced amateur or professional photographer.

inks ran out so fast
on October 25, 2013

I just purchased and received it today. I was so excited to get ready for my prints.
I immediately found some problem.
1. my prints got out with some ink mark but not serious.
2. inks ran out SO SO fast. i only printed only 4 ,11x8.5, some inks already gone to bottom.
3. I couldn't clearly understand how to switch Matte black and photo black.
4. fine art paper loading deck in the front is not properly working. keep sending errors. I had difficulties to figure out and to try to re load a paper many times to get the image.
Now i am thinking to return it. I can't afford to feed inks for every 2 weeks.

After 18 months of use This printer drops large blobs of ink on my photos. The repair shop says that it will cost $800 to fix the problem. This printer is now useless.

it's wasteful of ink when changing photo blk. to matte blk. or vice versa. and inks are not cheap.
i should have just bought one that does not interchange photo blk. and matte blk.

Epson 3000

so far my epson r3000 is not working. I've received the first refurbished replacement for my new r3000 which malfunctioned after 2 weeks of use. So my star rating is still pending. But being unable to print anything while UPS transports replacement parts ( I am now awaiting new ink cartridges that were defective on my refurbished printer), gets a little tedious. So that's my reveiw. Futher installments to come

Spectacular prints! This is a really great printer.
I have only given it 4 stars because of something that happened at set-up. This probably would not have happened if I had read the complete instruction manual; however I followed the set-up instruction sheet. Used USB connection. Printed test page using plain paper. This put photo black ink into operation. My error as all my printing was going to be on matte paper! Changed ink using buttons on front of printer. Printer did not communicate change to computer so program would not let me select matte paper. Tried everything this side of re-installing matte ink (figured this would just waste ink). Called your tech support but could not seem to communicate to technician what was happening. Finally gave up and took a break and shut both printer and computer down. When I restarted both the right ink was shown on the screen. It has worked perfectly ever since.
