Apple OS Lion Users call tech support to install
on February 26, 2012

The Epson Styus Photo R3000 printer performs as advertised and is a joy to use. But, Apple OS Lion users are instructed to not use the shipped CD and instead are directed to the Epson website for revised software installation. Doing so can be fatal as you may introduce the wrong firmware. Instead, call the Epson Tech Support for assistance that involves an easy two-minute fix. Epson needs to update its download website.

Large printer. Paper choices are many and excellent quality, prints on photo class paper from this printer are astounding. Sharpness, color variance and range. bit of a learning curve to select the right printer output options but worth it.

Beautiful Prints

This printer does a wonderful job in capturing the fine details in my photos. The 8x10's are as sharp as the 4x6's. As I recently acquired this printer, I have not tested it with various paper finishes. The only concern I have so far is the ink consumption. It consumed the basic black cartridge in very few prints. When I called customer service about this issue, they indicated that the initial charge of the ink tubes uses more ink than in normal processing. I'm hoping that this is the case.

R3000

I love this printer! Its fast and the prints are outstanding! The only thing they need to change is the paper holding capacity, it will only hold about 30 sheets of 8 x 10’s, that means when you have a 250 run you are always going back to add paper. The good news is you can do those long runs without changing ink cartridges. Take the time to learn the Black & White settings, if you just let the printer go, the B&W prints have a blue cast. Use the B&W settings in the print setups.

Upgraded from R1800 to R3000
on January 6, 2012

Since 2005, I printed a lot of great photos through my Epson R1800 printer and was always very satisfied with it. I then gifted it to my adult son after deciding to upgrade to the R3000. It was very easy to set up, even on Wifi (one less cable behind my desk). At first, I was not happy with the picture quality. I spent considerable time playing with the settings before I got exceptional picture results. The key is to use the highest quality setting and very slow speed. I miss the gloss optimizer from the R1800 because those pictures had a nicer surface. However, on a side-by-side comparison, the detail and colors of the R3000 are far superior ... and I was happy before. Plus, I liked that the functionality of the R3000 is very similar to the old model so there was not much to learn. Finally, the double ink cartridges are a great idea so they do not need to be replaced as often. In short, it is a great machine and I'd highly recommend it.

Fantastic except...

Love everything about this printer except one really annoying thing, you waste ink every time you need to swap from photo black to Matte black ink. This seems like a major design flaw to me.

Epson R3000 Casual User Review
on January 29, 2013

After nearly eight years of faithful service from my Epson R2400, I decided the time had come for an upgrade. Even though my R2400 still prints great, there were several key features of the R3000 that compelled me to purchase the new printer, including the ability to print CD/DVDs, the straight-path manual feed capability, increased ink capacity, and 802.11n Wi-Fi support.
The out-of-box unpacking experience was extremely straight forward. The included Epson quick-start sheet was easy to follow, and there were no surprises with regard to removing the packing materials and setting up the new ink cartridges. The printer is almost identical in size to the older R2400, but you do need a little more room behind the R3000 to accomodate the straight paper-path when using the manual feed option. It is not recommended to put this printer directly against a wall if you will utilize art board or some of the more rigid fine art papers.
While Wi-Fi setup on the R3000 was simple, you might wish to connect the printer via USB to your computer initially so that you can update the Firmware to the latest version. Epson has released several Firmware updates for the R3000 to address key functions, so an upgrade to the latest is strongly recommended. Firmware may possible via Wi-Fi, but the update application indicates a USB connection is required.
Print quality so far has been exceptional on Epson Premium Glossy 4x6 borderless photo paper, Premium White Inkjet 8.5x11", Avery smooth-edge double sided inket business cards, and Intuit pre-printed check stock. I use the R3000 for general purpose every-day printing, in addition to occasional photo printing.
The build quality appears to be very sturdy and well laid out. I cannot comment about long term reliability of the R3000 at this time, due to my short ownership. But, if the R3000 is anything like my trusty R2400, I look forward to a long and happy relationship with this new printer.
