R 1800 Replacement
on September 23, 2011

This replaces my Stylus Photo R1800, and is much better for network use in that I can get two way communications for Ink Levels etc. from any computer on the network
Paper handling seems much improved
I do miss the Gloss Optimizer function of the R1800, and notice the lack of gloss on white or near white areas of a print

I've only had it for a few day and printed a small number of photos. The quality is great! My only criticism is that it seems to use more ink than I thought it would.

Epson R3000

Have used for 2 weeks and 2 dozen photos. The printer settings can easily be tweaked, but worked very well right out of the box. Colours are slightly under-saturated (this is my first pigment-based printer). You can increase saturation for colour images, which are somewhat muted. Ink usage seems good. The printer's B&W setting produces beautiful images with little or no tweaking. Epson's B&W settings did a better job than Lightroom or PSE. Great printer for those looking to do more B&W images. Having larger cartridges helps, as well. Is very sturdy, and seems well constructed.

The Epson R-3000 is extremely quiet. The first time I used it, I had to double check that it was actually printining. Don't let my title confuse you. I do some self-fulfillment, and it does use a great deal of ink, but if you want quality prints, this machine will do that. Otherwise you are better off outsourcing your print work. If I had the room, I would have a larger machine with ink tanks and could buy the ink in bulk. It would be nice if the ink cartidges were a little larger for the price, and as yet, I am unable to locate and ink recycling/cartridge exchang outlet.

Superb black and white

I upgraded from a R1800, because the black and white printing was simply unacceptable. The R3000 installation was so simple and straight-forward (NB. if you are using OS X Lion, follow the instructions in the box to go to the website to get your drivers and firmware update before using the printer). And my first black and white print was just superb.

Beautiful Color and Quality...and fast

Just got the R3000 after having the 2200 for several years. A big leap in quality, color, and speed. Love it already.
Two slightly inconvenient features: having to manually switch from PK to MK on the epson screen. I wish the printer switched back and forth automatically. Also having to manual feed thicker paper in front...but otherwise beautiful repros of my watercolors, paintings, and drawings...

EPSON Stylus Photo R3000 Inkjet Printer

I have owned Epson Printers for over 15 years and still use my R200 for small prints. The color has always been tops with me, but this new R3000 printer does Black and White prints that are stunning. I am old school and have done my share of wet process black and white printing, and the prints that come out of this Epson are incredible, and I did not even try changing the standard setting. Great Job Epson.

I have been using the Epson R3000 now for about 4 months. It is performing flawlessly. I did a lot of research on fine art printers and printing before I purchased this machine, and I can tell you that I'm glad I did.
I really like B&W printing and this printer blows the doors off of any competitor in its price range. The Advanced B&W function in the printer driver is fantastic. You can really customize the overall tone of your image quite easily.
Set up was a snap. I used the printer display to link to my network and had no problems setting this up. There are a few little tricks that aren't covered in the manual, such as the ability to use an economy flush when switching from photo black to matte black. A web search will help find those tips.
I keep my machine covered when not in use and I print something at least once every 2 weeks or so, and I have not had a problem with nozzles clogging or paper jamming. The colors are crisp and clear and match my calibrated monitor. The printer really shines when it comes to B&W, however. I've had a great deal of fun experimenting with different papers, settings on the Advanced B&W driver, and rendering intents. The larger ink cartridges help are a blessing. I've printed quite a bit and I am still using the ink set that came with the printer.
This is a great printer at a very reasonable price. One thing that I didn't consider when I purchased the machine is the very large Epson printer user community that is out there. I haven't had any major issues yet, but knowing that there are a LOT of folks out there using the same machine provides a level of comfort that you won't find with any other printer.
