infuriating permanent 'plastic wrap' packaging

This refrigerator comes with many of its parts wrapped in pale-pink plastic wrap. Not just the exterior--but parts of the assembled fridge are wrapped in it in such a way that it cannot be ripped off. When you remove it, even if you're really careful and attentive to it, it leaves messy ripped plastic-wrap edges everywhere around your fridge. (Inside and outside.) I read about this problem in a review of this refrigerator before I bought it, but I thought--I'm a detail-oriented person, I will be able to remove this, that person must just be impatient or too nit-picky. I wish I had heeded the review. No, your manicure scissors or tweezers are not going to solve this problem. And it makes this not-cheap fridge look junky. I'm really disappointed and would return it if that were remotely possible.

Thanks for taking the time to write about your fridge. So sorry to hear about the frustration with the protective film, we can understand how this would be frustrating. We normally recommend using rubber-tipped tweezers to help with removing any small pieces of film from around gaskets; this would also help to ensure that the finish isn't damaged. Sleek and Roomy!

I love this refrigerator. It’s so roomy inside. We realized the in-door ice and water maker were not something we needed. And removing that feature made the inside so much bigger and brighter. The ice in the bottom freezer is much better for us; a bit old school perhaps but actually quicker to get ice. I like the beverage drawer with its own temperature setting for beer, wine etc. The lighting inside is illuminating, but not overly bright. Was surprised at how that makes it easier to find things. The Controls are located in a smart place, accessible but also out of the way as you use the refrigerator. I wish it was less pricey, but we paid up hoping the quality of GE will allow this to be a 10 year frig for us. Obviously, I’m confident it will be that.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Steer Clear - Horrible

Compressor failed within one year of purchasing this fridge. The replacement compressor, while working, is obnoxiously loud. It's so loud that it can be heard throughout the house. Would never recommend this product to anyone. I have had 2 techs come out to look at it, with their comment indicating this is something common and this noise is "normal." This is extremely disappointing, and I would have never purchased this had I known.

Total disappointment

Nothing but trouble since we installed in our new kitchen remodel. Evaporator fan goes bad, replace it then the new one goes bad, replace it it never works. Probably a mother board issue. At the same time the Water will not dispense. Very disappointed in GE. We bought the microwave and stove matching set along with the refrigerator . Weeks after installation the microwave failed. Oven is average at best. Thought we were installing top end appliances… we were wrong.

freezer draw does not close

The bottom freezer draw does not close properly. I am waiting for service to see if it can be fixed or I will get another new refrigerator.

Poort quality. Failed after 24 hours.

Bought at local appliance retailer. The refrig failed after 24 hours. Ruined all our frozen food. Retailer replaced with the same model. We were without a refrig for 4 days. I paid a premium for GE, but unit failed out of the box. Failed unit dripped light green oil on my floor from kitchen to front door. A large disappointment.

Handles are made of cheap platic and break

Do NOT BUY! Handles are made or cheap plastic. They break after 3 years. Freezer handle broke first, then few month later right door handle broke. See pictures. These appliances are too expensive for this type of quality issues. This is the exterior, makes me wonder how is the inside critical components made?

Nothing but problems

I've had this refrigerator a little over a year. I had to get it serviced only 4 months in because it froze all my refrigerator food. Now, it's not refrigerating at all. The only way to keep my food cold is by using the turbo cool feature and stocking ice in the refrigerator. I thought GE was a reliable brand but this is ridiculous. Do not recommend.
