Deplorable

This refrigerator failed immediately. The ice maker dribbled and spit water all night and filled the entire upper rack of the freezer with a layer of ice a half inch thick. No ice cubes. The temperature digital readouts for the refrigerator and freezer are set points only, not actual current temperatures. Food felt warm so lowered refrigerator set point to 37, the lowest possible. Still warm so used a digital high low thermometer to check, and it could maintain only 42-46 degrees: food poisoning range!!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

While it is the French door and capacity I was looking for, it certainly is not the quality I was expecting for the price. Way too much plastic involved.

The latest bells and whistles meets expectations

I've read most of the reviews and complaints about similar GE fridges and I consider them outliers or owners not reading the manual.
- Is it noisy? Maybe when compared to other makers. My measurements show <45dB when the compressor is on (23min) but it throttles back to a low hum (fan?... another 11min) and obviously it's dead quiet when it turns "off" (25min of silence). Still quieter than your low noise dishwashers. Maybe as noisy as my old 20+yr GE Profile side-by-side.
- No problems reaching set point temp. Using an instant read digital meat thermometer, I saw <1degF from factory set points of 0F (freezer) and 37F (fridge: w/glass of water). The operating manual is incorrect about being able to read temp directly off the unit. Door storage temp was ~ 40F (as expected).
- No issues with black ice or water dispense IF YOU FLUSH THE LINE. Ice maker "clunks" ice when it's empty, but hardly noticeable when partially full.
- Aesthetics? Love the counter depth (delivery team did not have to take the doors off!); slate finish = no fingerprints; LED lighting lets me see without warming the interior space; water dispense is internal (doesn't compromise fridge space for ice maker) or put a hole in the fridge door (less complicated; more energy efficient).
- Complaints? The RFID chip in the water filter at more than double the price? Outrageous... almost didn't buy the fridge based on that alone. The waterline inlet connector on the fridge was obstructed by framing sheet metal (needed to hammer the frame to make enough clearance to attach waterline hose). Freezer door could have an "open door" alarm as well.
Wish I could post updated reviews as the product ages. Hoping it lasts another 20 years.

Low quality for the money

Hard to believe at this price point that there would be so many issues with the drawers. On the day after it was delivered, we had to have the guys from the place we bought it come to fix the large crisper drawer which would simply not stay on the tracks. Now—not even 3 weeks later—one of the smaller crisper drawers will not close properly no matter what we do. Gah! So annoying and frustrating. Just cheaply made and poorly engineered. The cause is the tubing behind the drawer for the in-fridge water is bunched up behind the drawer and the drawer just won't push in all the way. We've tried making adjustments, but it just seemed to make it worse. So.. now what... pay the service call fee just to have them come out and fix what should never have been an issue in the first place?! NOT okay. Very disappointed in the cheapness and lack of thought in the design of the drawers.

Love most of the refrigerator

For a counter depth refrigerator, it gives you plenty of room. You can adjust everything to your heart's content. The one real flaw is the water dispenser. You need two hands in order to operate it. It should be where you just lean your cup against a button and the water dispenses. I need to have one hand hold the button and one hand hold the cup. GE, you should come up with a better design

The jury is still out

We are on our second refrigerator in less than a year. The first one died after 8 months of use. The vendor we purchased it from was able to replace the first one. We like the features and storage capacity of the unit, just need it to work. If the new one last more than a year, I will come back and amend this review.
