Awesome refrigerator!

Oh my. I love the way the shelving and drawers are arranged. The two doors on top and freezer drawer on the bottom works perfect for us. There is lots of room for everything we need. In fact there is even room that isn't being occupied. There is just the two of us, but we had PLENTY of room when the family came at Christmas with lots of food that needed to be refrigerated. We thought we might have to put the large ham in the garage, but it fit too! Very, very happy with our refrigerator.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Doors weren't aligned, Profile logo is not straight and cannot be removed so I don't have to see it. Plastic wrapped is so imbedded in seams, cannot be removed.

Solid Counter-Depth Refrigerator
on July 26, 2017

This is a gem of an appliance if not a bit pricey (hence the 4 stars for value). A counter-depth refrigerator better fits the space in our kitchen but it also costs more money than larger models in comparable styles. The refrigerator is beautiful, but unfortunately, fingerprints are inevitable and it is susceptible to scratches. Also, don't miss the narrow space on the inside of the upper part of the freezer drawer closest to the handle--we store ice packs there.
According to review sites, this GE model (PWE23KSKSS) keeps the internal temperature colder than models with ice and water in the door while also providing more space (the space inside the door can be used for food rather than a dispenser). So far the temperature has performed as expected. The only downside to this design (which we knew before we purchased) is that the inner water dispenser is difficult to press while filling a glass with water.
A word of caution: follow the instruction manual and turn on water to the refrigerator before turning on the ice maker function. This will prevent air in the line and keep the refrigerator more quiet. I wonder if other reviewers who complain about noise are merely hearing air in the water line because they did not follow this sequence.
This is not an IoT (Internet of Things) device, so if you want that look elsewhere. Personally, I don't want my appliances hooked up to the internet where they can be hacked. The lack of IoT also simplifies the refrigerator and presents less to break down the road, whether it is a hardware or software failure or future software incompatibility.
However, this model offers something you won't find in most refrigerators in its price range--twin evaporators. Do not confuse this with twin condensers. This unit has one condenser but two evaporators which helps to maintain higher humidity levels in the fresh food section without inducing freezer burn in the freezer section, while also preventing freezer odors from transferring into the refrigerator.
In sum, if you value temperature consistency over an external water and ice dispenser and if you need a counter-depth refrigerator, this should be at the top of your list.

GE says, "use a blow dryer" to defrost.
on November 4, 2017
Posted by: BayAreaCalifornia
My refrigerator is less than a year old, and has required enough minor services to warrant purchasing an extended warranty. The biggest issues: (1) It really does not hold that much food. I think it might work for a 1-2 person family that strategically cooked to accommodate the small refrigerator size. (2) The number of repairs. (3) Today, I found hairy frost and a coating of ice across the upper half of freezer on most surfaces. The door was definitely shut. The GE Answer Center suggested putting vaseline on the seal, and indicated that the freezer is NOT frost-free (weird!) and that I would need to unplug the refrigerator, find a place for food for 24 hours, and take a blow dryer to the freezer. I was informed that if I wanted to wait to do this, that water would accumulate in the refrigerator, and that I would need to remove the water, with frequency of a need to do so not known, to prevent a pool of water on my kitchen floor. This refrigerator replaced a 17-year old unit (the only thing wrong as that the light did not turn on) after a minor water heater leak that ended up having me replace my kitchen floor. I never had to defrost my old one manually. (4) And finally...the finish scratches easily.

Having owned our GE side-by-side for 17 years, it was an obvious decision to look for an updated GE model. We found the perfect fridge for our retirement lifestyle, fit our kitchen space and was within our budget. Although the freezer is slightly smaller than our side-by-side, we're thrilled with the clean lines and bright interior of this model.

Love this Refrigerator
on July 2, 2018

I've only had this refrigerator for a couple of weeks, but I love it. It has great features such as LED lighting, smooth sliding drawers, adjustable shelves and door alarms. The lighting makes the inside very bright and clear so it's easy to find items. The door shelves are spacious and able to accommodate condiments and bottles without having to take up space on the inside shelves. The temperature of the fridge and the freezer have been consistent.

Do your homework - then choose this.

Our old (vintage 1980) GE fridge, which came with our way older house, was still managing to provide essential services, but we didn't want to be caught up short when it gave out, so we planned & saved and then did a lot of homework, because neither of us has ever had to purchase a fridge before. After Consumer Reports and many review & rating sites, taking into account the very specific measurements of the available kitchen space, this is where we landed, happy to find that without search bias we got to stick with an American-made product we could purchase from a local small business. Our priorities were: to fit it in the same footprint, with equal or greater interior space, bottom-freezer French door, filtered icemaking & chilled filtered water (without caring about thru-door dispensers - just one more potential breakdown), Energy Star, temperature monitoring & adjustment, adjustable & spillproof shelving. This unit has it all. I was hoping to keep it under $2k, but this was the size that made the best use of the footprint, and we got a helpful little GE rebate. Features that surprised us or exceeded expectations: Amazing interior "showcase" lighting; ability to choose the climate of each climate drawer independently (can set both the same if you want); the way the clear shelves & drawers let light in everywhere; ability to level the unit and adjust each door to compensate for floor wonkiness; beverage can rack in the TempSelectZone drawer (the full-width one); space adjustability options in the freezer. Now - my husband & I have differing opinions about the bottom freezer, which is admittedly heavy when loaded & seals very well when closed so that it takes a tug to open: He doesn't like having to bend to open & access it; I'm the one with the spine disease, & I'm used to approaching bend/lift situations with proper body mechanics. Given that nothing -in- the freezer is very heavy, the ice is on the top shelf & you can use the bottom one for anything heavy or infrequently used, if you just remember to plant your feet, center your gravity, & use both hands equally, it's a smooth little dance that's easy to get used to. The freezer is slightly smaller in sqftage than our old one, but it is full-width, which is really nice for those occasional wide items. Some reviewers have said (1) the fridge materials feel cheap and (2) the construction feels rickety. I would respond that (1) that's the nature of the kind of plastic that is most durable for decades below zero, and (2) the structure has to have some play in it in order to survive decades of below-zero mechanical stresses, like buildings in earthquake zones. One design aspect I find difficult to work with is the slope of the rear wall of the freezer drawer, but I also can't think how the space could be designed better. I also wish the default leveling tilted slightly to the rear in order to help the doors close on their own, but I'm sure I can adjust this if I want, and at least all the doors are alarmed. Overall I'm very happy with it so far. A few years down the road, I'll update with long-term performance.

Thoroughly disgusted

Looks nice but frankly tired of waking up to the sound of my refrigerator. While you insist noise is normal, friend recently purchased same model with ice dispenser and it is totally silent. An appliance repair person suggested that a software upgrade may be in order/ not done at the factory. How do I check to see if this is the case? Have owned GE appliances for years. Thoroughly disgusted to have spent thousands this time.
