Freezer on Bottom Fridge

I love the new layout of the freezer on bottom refrigerators. This model has an inside water dispenser that doesn't take up fridge space. I like that I can easily fit a 9x13 inch pan in this fridge as well as the roominess of two tiered freezer drawer.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Excellent Fridge -- Monitor Freezer

We like this fridge, especially counter-depth feature. Counter-depth costs a premium but worth it to us because our townhouse kitchen fridge area is constrained by a center island and we have two person household. We purchased an after-market wireless thermometer for both fridge and freezer. Glad we did as door temps are not always accurate and gauge warned us when freezer temps rose unexpectedly. Takes about 48 hours for fridge and freezer temps to stabilize. Installer made sure front stabilizing anti-roll feet were properly adjusted for leveling and avoiding fridge rolling forward when opening the tightly sealed freezer door. We added a remote water leak detector under fridge as we've had major repairs from previous fridges which leaked. Installer advised to use a microfiber damp cloth using side to side (horizontal) cleaning motion to avoid scratching stainless steel doors. This cleaning method works great.
Coming from a top freezer model we like the well lit full access French Door style. Interior is spacious considering we loose several inches of depth with this style. Shelves are well spaced and moveable for flexibility. Enough room in door sides for gallon milk containers. LED lighting in both fridge and freezer is excellent. Water dispenser inside the fridge is good but it chills water rather than making it cold. Settings on side of door are easy to read and adjust without taking up interior space.
Bottom freezer works well but has some quirks which we can live with. This is a heavy freezer door on a complicated sliding mechanism with a tight seal. If the compressor suddenly begins running full speed for more than 10 minutes it normally means we must check it. Consider these:
1. As many have said, it takes a good pull to open freezer and break the seal. Installer showed us that gently pulling with one hand on center of handle or using both hands, one hand on each end works best. We find this to be true. A quick hard pull on one end only of the handle will damage the opening mechanism over time. 2. The freezer can be open without the door-open alarm going off so make sure it is fully closed. Result of leaving it open is quick frost buildup and temp rising rapidly. 3. The top sliding shelf must be fully pushed in prior to closing the door or it will sometimes result in a seal leak resulting in temp rising quickly and frost build up. We noticed this because the compressor began running non-stop at full speed while our after-market temp gauge showed the temp rising quickly. 4. Freezer compressor system will sometimes spool up to full speed with more than normal noise. If it lasts for more than 10 minutes check temperature and door closure for tight seal.
In summary we really like this fridge. Counter-depth works for us. Freezer requires a bit more monitoring and care but we can live with it.

Make sure to check usability before you buy

Purchased 2 weeks back, so, still trying to get used to it. It looks good and the inside lighting is good. The shelves in the door hold a lot of cartons. But has some usability issues especially the freezer is very hard to organize.
Most likely, no one at GE has ever organized this refrigerator. Things to consider: The doors don't close unless pressed tight - no gravity at play unlike my older fridge. This takes some getting used to and a major con for me. This is my first french door - the entire freezer weight is pulled when you open the door. So, it will be harder if you have arm-muscle issues. The freezer gets very very cluttered as there is no proper shelving. I am surprised that manufacturers have not paid attention to usability. There are some youtube videos with ideas to organize that you might find useful. The doors are slightly misaligned (1/16 of an inch - some might say OCD-ing). I noticed after the installers left. The drop shelf on the right hand door is fancy, but, things slide from it given the door has to pulled and pushed hard. The fridge makes a loud noise every so often for about 10 seconds. Water dispenser requires 2 hands - one to hold the cup and one to press the button.
Overall, good value for money, but has big usability issues for me. Counting on GE quality for longevity.

Poor door design and operation

Doors are so hard to open that pulling them causes the entire unit to roll forward. Door must be pushed hard to close. Freezer door often will not stay closed. After a few minutes it pops open. Other times it won't close at all.

Hello! Thanks for sharing your concerns and giving us a chance to help. We're sorry for any inconvenience and know this must be frustrating. If your refrigerator is rolling or moving when one of the doors is opened, a piece of wood, a small wood wedge, or plastic furniture coaster with felt on the bottom may be placed under the wheels to prevent it from rolling forward.
We suggest you make sure there is nothing in the freezer that is preventing the door from closing tightly. If the door will not stay closed, please take advantage of your warranty and schedule an appointment with GE Service at 1-800-432-2737 or online at https://www.geappliances.com/ge/service-and-support/service.htm. We hope this helps! - Sharon@GEA

Great space utilization

We just replaced our 35 year old refrigerator with this model. LOVE the bottom access freeze and the organization options in the refrigerator section is top notch. Our only complete is that the slate finish is very fragile... easily scratched and nicked... we are not sure how it's going to hold up over time.

Really nice fridge

First, it's beautiful. The exterior color and the interior "showcase" lighting - awesome. I see a lot of people complaining about the freezer being hard to open - I feel it's not that crazy. It's sealed, like it should be. It does not require brute force to open, it's pretty easy...Also the interior water dispenser is easy to do one-handed. I thought I'd hate it being on the interior but it's not too bad and keeps the seamless look on the outside and limits spillage/dripping. So far so good! (Just wish they wouldn't put so much friggin tape and styrofoam etc. all over this thing - it was a PITA to get off!)

Compressor failed and replacement extremely noisy
on April 30, 2021
Posted by: Conway1933
We bought a PWE23KYNFS a year ago and the compressor failed within 3 months. GE replaced the compressor with a larger one that had to be retrofit. It is much louder with an annoying 3000Hz whine that runs for 20 min every hour. My conclusion is that quality control identified a percentage of compressors that would fail and GE/Haier choose a more cost effective solution to replace those compressors in the field. It leaves one wondering how long the compressors will last that have lasted beyond the first year. I commented about the loudness to the technician who retrofit the larger compressor, his response was this was normal sound. GE/Haier says "to adjust to it." To quote another review "it is not just loud, it is GE fridge loud." Not recommended. GE no longer makes GE Appliances. GE sold the products to Haier. Our primary reason for looking at the GE Profile refrigerator is that we have a GE Profile kitchen. Albite a 20 year old GE Profile kitchen, including a Monogram range. Thus, we were replacing a 20 year old GE Profile refrigerator and expected comparable quality. This unit (while sold as a part of the Profile line) does not meet the standards of the Profile line from 20 years ago.
