Decent product - not great

Main reason I bought this product was that I decided to change all my kitchen appliances to black and I wanted additional storage capacity. Also, I've always been happy with GE products. All in all, I like the refrigerator with some reservations. I can't seem to place the shelves in an efficient way, especially to store taller items. There is no dedicated area to store a carton (dozen) of eggs. I've managed to accidentally touch the temperature control while removing a food item and unknowingly, moved the control to its warmest setting - ultimately spoiling a fair amount of food that I had stored. This happened a second time but I caught myself in the act and reset the temperature control before any spoilage took place. I purchased the unit without an ice maker but decided to add one a couple of weeks later. I'm very handy with tools but could not figure out how to mount the water valve the way it was explained in the instructions. Ultimately, I had to have GE Service come out and install the unit. Turns out that the instruction booked was not correct! However to GE's credit, I was not charged for the service call. I like the unit, it looks great in my kitchen and works well -mas long as I don't accidentally hit the temperature control!
I got this fridge a couple months ago after our fridge quit cooling. We had home warranty program and was given specific fridge model but was too large for our location. We were given specific amount to spend on a like model. This fridge is noisy but not any more than our old fridge and nothing that is annoying. For the price, it is fine. It keeps food cold. Our only complaint is the placemat of shelves. If we have all the shelves in the fridge, it is not tall enough to put milk or tea pitcher on the shelf. I don't like to put milk in the door as to they say it spoils faster. Although if you like that, there's perfect spot in the door for milk. We had to take one shelf out and readjust the spacing to allow enough room for the milk and tea containers. Although we sometimes put the tea pitcher in the door shelf. The shelves are very sturdy and hold all our essentials. Our old fridge shelves fell off a lot b/c of the weight. Not this fridge.
Overall, it is a great budget fridge. We got it in black and looks very sharp. The shelving could use some renovating to allow for taller items. Door shelves are very sturdy and roomy.
I really like this refrigerator. It is nice and shiny so you have to keep fingerprints wiped off of it. The only thing I don't like is that there is only one temperature dial for the fridge and freezer combined and it is right at the front of the refrigerator and it gets bumped a lot. I have to keep an eye on it or the next thing I know, things in the freezer are melting.
Experienced a noticable decrease in electricity consumption after purchasing this refrigerator. Agree that the control knob can be accidentally adjusted while reaching in - solved by placing a small piece of clear tape across the knob. Agree that it was somewhat difficult to find the right shelving configuration - solved by removing the large shelf entirely. Everything worked out great.
