I got this product three weeks ago and I love it! I always wanted a device that could play games, music, videos and surf the net. If only it came in another color like black or silver! But I'm not complaining! I would definitely recommend it to someone who is just looking for a device for entertainment.
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Durable
Cons: only available in one colour
I would recommend this to a friend!

From the beginning charging port needed some fiddling before player could be connected to computer or charged. Exactly after 1 yr and 30days, charging port broke rendering the player useless.
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Better than Apple

I initially wanted to buy an i pod touch but while I was waiting at the store I saw this big beautiful bundle of joy and decided that I wanted to buy the samsung galaxy player 5 and I don't regret my decision.
I have had my player since November (about 8 months) and now it is frozen. It froze while I was browsing through my pictures and so I turned it off to restart it. Then I turned it back on however exactly 3 seconds later, I shut back down. I tried multiple times to try to turn it on but It never responded. I was able to get it into system recovery and I tried rebooting it but got no response. I REBOOTED ABOUT 100 TIMES, NO JOKE but it would just pull up a white screen and then show the "samsung" logo and then go back to recovery. I EVEN TRIED WIPING THE DATA AND GOING BACK TO FACTORY RESET BUT EVEN THAT DIDN'T DO ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!! Samsung definitely needs to fix their system and I am very disappointed with this product. I had many irreplaceable photos and videos on there and there is no way to get them back. My friend has also had many issues with the Samsung Galaxay sIII. I will NEVER reccommend this to anyone. apparently Best BUy has discontinued this product also because of it's horrible performance.
Pros: right size
Cons: Did not meet expectations, bad system
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Slightly Misses the mark

For the most part, this player is acceptable. It actually would be a very good device had Samsung not dropped the ball so badly in a few critical areas.
1 - This is the MOST egregious: The amount of RAM is pitifully low. The device should have had at least twice as much if not 3x as much ram. This causes the device to run slow and even lock up. A really stupid and unforgivable design decision. 2 - Processor speed is only slightly underpowered. 20-40% more power would have been better. However, the processing power it has is sufficient if you do not want to play arcade games. 3 - There should have been an option to install apps onto the internal USB memory as well as the external. If you install too many apps onto the 2g of internal memory, you have no alternative but to move them to the external memory; huge design flaw. 4 - There seems to be a problem with the USB connection port. I have owned my Galaxy for a little less than a month and already, I have to wiggle the cord to get the thing to charge. This does not bode well. I fear that this type of problem will only worsen until it will not take a charge, thus rendering the thing useless. Because of the large screen, it uses a lot of energy and thus requires charging often if you are using it to watch video or have the screen on for extended periods. Not that the battery is insufficient really, just needs to be charged often and with a poorly built USB port that seems like it will wear out quickly, this will happen faster due to the increased charging frequency.
All in all, it is kind of sad that they were not able to see these short falls before it went into production because had these simple issues been taken care of, this would have been an awesome player.
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Realistic color, screen size just right on the too large threshold
Cons: way too little ram, apperntly weak usb connection port
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This is an alright product given Samsung's track record. Samsung offers much better products than this one. I only say this because of the bottleneck in the Player. The RAM keeps this product from being a good product. If you run too many things on it (ie. music and a low graphical game), the system crashes one of the two because it overloads the RAM. The processor runs fairly well and it can run most graphically intensive apps (given enough time to load). But this is not a high end product by any means. If you're looking for a quality product, keep going down the line of samsung's lineup. They offer much better products than this one for a slightly higher price.
Pros: Inexpensive
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations, not powerful, crashes often, can't keep up with above average user
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This product has an overall good rating from me

The Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 has nice features including front and back cameras, speakers, an awesome big screen, and touch buttons. The cameras don't have very good quality but for me the screen made up for it. I really love the big screen and it isn't too big and the product fits nicely in your hand. I have a problem that sometimes it just randomly restarts itself when i am in the middle of doing something, or glitches so I have to restart it. The touch buttons glitch sometimes and I have to keep touching them for anything to happen. Some games make it run really slow and freeze. I have had this for a year and the battery life is still really good, it takes a long time for it to run out of battery but I keep it at the lowest brightness but this is still pretty bright. I think it should go a little darker and also sometimes it randomly gets brighter and I have to go to Settings and change it. sometimes when i press the button to turn the screen on it doesn't turn on. I am someone who can deal with all the glitches and freezes but if you are not one of those people, you might want to reconsider getting this product, otherwise you might get frustrated a lot with it. I have dropped it multiple times on tile and on the road and it has never gotten a cracked screen and doesn't have any scratches either which i find impressive.
