First I'd like to say that the IPOD Touch 4G was my FIRST ever MP3 player and I've been using iOS forever. These are MY opinions about the device. so please don't bash my review. Thanks!
I just bought this device and I've been playing with it all day. At first I wasn't sure if it was worth the price, but after a while I decided to give it a try.
The Device itself:
All I can say is WOW! I never expected this SGP to be this nice. A lot of people have been giving negative feedback about this thing, and I have no idea why. I'll lay out the Pros and Cons just to give you guys a summery. But anyway, the device is not heavy at all, it's a pretty good size for my pocket(5" Version), and it's not that thick either. Surprisingly the screen looks amazing, even though it's a WVGA (800 x 480) Resolution- it still looks clear and crisp(expected from Samsung). The touch screen is also very responsive, just like the IPOD Touch 4G. Camera is pretty good for a 3.2 mega pixel with flash. Pictures are clear, a little better outdoors than indoors. It has 720p Recording and all that good stuff, basically just like the Ipod Touch 4G. It has microSD which rocks! The devices white plastic cover has a pretty nice feel to it, although it feels kind of cheap- not terribly cheap, but it could have been A lot better. Not a huge issue though. The capacitive buttons seem responsive(The international SGP has a dedicated button, US Version doesn't) as well.
Battery:
I didn't have any problems charging this thing. When I got it out of the box it was almost out of juice, so I plugged it in and it took about an hour to get full battery. I read some other reviews where guys were saying it takes a very long time to charge- well mine doesn't take that long. The battery lasts quite a while, as I said I've been using it all day. it's at about 50% battery life when I started typing this review.
Interface/Android/Apps:
Awesome. Skype video calls are working ok- a bit buggy and it has some echo in the voices, but it should be fixed sooner or later. The android market works like a charm, no lag at all. I downloaded a few apps like engadget app, weather widgets, ect. downloading apps are smooth as well. I haven't really had a chance to download games and all of the Samsung apps. I'm sure they run smooth, but I'll update the review when I do get a chance. Movies/Videos look sharp and beautiful on this 5" screen(never had a device this big before). Audio/Music is clear and sounds great.
Samsung galaxy player VS Ipod Touch 4G:
Well to put it this way, it's up to the person. me personally... I would go for the galaxy because of the expandable storage space(microSD),the bigger screen, Flash player in browsers, support for basically ALL video formats(Drag and Drop. WOOT!), no iTunes to waste my time. although, iPod doesn't feel cheap like the SGP, which I still think is not a big deal. The sound a a bit better on the galaxy player, plus you can set up the audio the way you want it. Ipod has a better screen, hands down. It's sharper then the SGP even though Samsung did a good job with the way it looks, since it's only a WVGA (800 x 480) Resolution.
PROS:
- Huge screen. - Runs the latest Adobe Flash Player. - Runs the latest Android(2.3.5, most likely up-gradable to Ice Cream Sandwich since Android devices running 2.3 are going to able to). Quote from Engadget posted Oct 19th 2011 12:04AM (Samsung and Google's Ice Cream Sandwich event) "Okay, so we've already seen Ice Cream Sandwich running on the Nexus S, but that was decidedly... unofficial. We've just heard straight from Google's Gabe Cohen that the Nexus S will definitely be getting ICS. In fact, both he and Matias Duarte think most Gingerbread devices will see an upgrade, saying: "Currently in the process for releasing Ice Cream Sandwich for Nexus S. Theoretically should work for any 2.3 device." It's hardly a surprise and there's no specific word on timing just yet, but hopefully it won't take long to move that vanilla Android device up to something with a breaded exterior." - MicroSD for more space. - GPS. - Adroid Market. - Support for most video formats(no conversion needed). - 3.2 MP Camera(Hey! it's pretty good for a PMP).
CONS:
- hardware is not really that great, I haven't dropped it yet(Hope I never do!!). But I would suggest getting a protective case. - No SuperClear AMOLED screen(Awwww... it still looks amazing though). - 1Ghz processor(Not an issue for me, although people would prefer dual core). - A little thick- not as slim as the iPod touch, but it will do. - Battery charging it not as fast as I'm used to. Since I've been using the iPod touch for so long, I'm use to the speed of charging with it. - Only 8 gigabytes of storage when it SHOULD be 16.(Thank god for microSD). - 328MB of ram.
Conclusion:
Over all, I love this PMP- I've been watching it since February and I finally got my dirty hands on it. Should you buy this device you ask? It's up to you. I jumped from my ipod 4G to this, so yeah. it depends on the person! I'm not a fan boy, I just want a PMP that works for ME. I don't care what people say about something when I haven't even given it a try yet.
Cons: white plastic cover seem a bit cheap, kind of expensive for only 8 gigs. 16gigs please!, 1ghz processor, 328mb of ram instead of 512mb, no superclear amoled
I would recommend this to a friend!

Really Good, but not perfect

I chose this Player over an iPod touch 5th Gen. Yeah. Its good. First of all, this thing is about the most sturdy and durable device you will ever own. i accidentally dropped it from the banister in my house and it dropped 15 or so feet flat on the screen. but when I checked for damage i couldn't even find so much as a scratch. so if your clumsy, get this. another thing is the speakers. they are LOUD. i planned on getting a speaker system for my music but when I turned it too the full volume its just as loud and clear. the only downside to this feature is that the speakers are on the back, so you have to set it on it's screen for the full effect, but the screen is pretty much unscratchable so this isn't a problem. The screen is HUGE and despite what you might think this fits perfectly in any pocket. and just a note to samsung, if your going to put a wrist strap on the thing, don't put it on the top left corner. please. on to the software. i was kind of disappointed when i found out that i couldn't update my operating system to the latest version, so some apps on the google play store are not compatible with this device. sorry, but i was really sad when i couldn't download Tiny Tower onto my brand new Samsung Galaxy Player. also, this device lags quite a lot. But with a five inch screen, you pretty much have a pocket sized tablet thats great for watching Netflix and YouTube. Overall, this Product is Awesome and I would recommend it to anyone who is reading this. you. get this.
Cons: Did not meet expectations, can't update operating system, wrist strap in the top left corner, some apps not compatible, lags, a little heavy, can't connect to wii remote
I would recommend this to a friend!

I have had the Galaxy 5.0 for three weeks now and think it is an outstanding product. I was looking for a tablet that would fit comfortably in my pocket and yet have a large screen. The Galaxy 5 fit the bill. The screen is huge at 5 inches. Since I also carry an Android cell phone with a web plan and can make it a hot spot, I can connect the Galaxy 5 to it and have web service all the time to watch movies surf the web and do email. The camera is excellent and takes very good pictures. The display screen is sharp and clear. I enjoy the large internal storage and can add up to 32 GB's more with a micro SD card. I added only 16 more and feel it will serve me well for what I want but I can always add more. The device is fast. Web pages open rather quickly. The case is metal and has the feel of a high quality product. Two stereo speakers are much louder than a cell phone. It also serves well as a book reader with the addition of certain apps. Battery life is excellent and much better than the average smart phone. I would highly recommend this device.
i travel and i am always looking at these tablets and devices to find what fits me best. For the record i have used the ipad and galaxy 7" tablet. both of those ended up as unwanted third devices in my bag.... i think now i may have found what i was looking for. i will be using this as a replacement for my kindle and other ebooks, a tv with my slingbox, for internet and local radio, netflix, music box, podcaster and for a voice guidence gps device. it is not the top of the line specs that samsung makes and it's better sister device the galaxy note has much better specs but for the price i think i have found something that i do not mind to carry around as a third device. first of all it uses the same charger as my phone. the tab and ipad needed their own charger. it has a 5" screen and i am finding that i prefer this size of screen because the other larger ones always gave e the feeling that someone was looking over my shoulder. especially when i was watching a movie or reading emails. does everyone really have to see what i am doing! the screen is only 800 x 480 but it is bright and clean and easy on the eyes. the the battery has lasted all day with 50% power left at 12 midnight. playing games is fantastic with more space and it's a great way to share pictures! there are 2 speakers in the back and they are louder than the galaxy tab 7" that i have used.
Pros: Bright display, Inexpensive, Lightweight, great battery life, 2 nice loud speakers on the rear
I would recommend this to a friend!

I researched the Samsung Galaxy 5.0 along with the ipod touch. After careful consideration, I chose the Samsung. The internal speaker is much better, the headphones are very nice, the rear camera has a flash and the apps are excellent. I love the web search speed and the graphics. The size is fantastic for watching videos and even movies. I love this device.
This wonderful device is a genuine media player, NOT a phone. The built in speakers sound great. Wi-Fi and bluetooth connections work flawlessly. Even sounds great linked with external speakers via bluetooth or mini stereo cable. Being somewhat computer savvy, I decided to take a chance and try a 64GB MicroSD card in this player. I had to reformat the card using the player but once I loaded everything on it the player had no problem finding my music and video files. If your looking for a great phoneless media player then look no further. My only negative for this player is the 8GB internal storage. Media players should have a minimum of 16GB.
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Inexpensive, Durable, Lightweight, ease of use, built in wi-fi and bluetooth
Cons: 8gb internal storage instead of 16gb
I would recommend this to a friend!

One thing is being over looked, that is with skype and other VOIP app installation, the built in receiver and microphone makes this device worked like a phone. It is really neat!
