lousy as an MP3 player, decent as a wifi-only smartphone

As an mp3 player, the Galaxy Player is worse than the low cost players that cost about half as much. The default media player has noticeably poor sound quality, and lacks a way to change tracks without using the touch screen or even from the lock screen.
The best use for the Galaxy Player, however, is as a cheap, wifi-only smartphone. It's got sufficient power and memory for the vast majority of applications (complex games the primary exception).
Unfortunately, even that's limited by Samsung's lack of updates, and support in general. There's still no support for Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), and trying to email support about this device is impossible (not an option in model number, a required field).
However, if you don't mind relying on community support and giving up certain hardware functionality (camera, bluetooth) to try newer versions of android, or you just don't like the iPad, it's a great way to join the smartphone revolution.
Pros: Built-in speakers, Inexpensive, Durable, Lightweight
Cons: Poor quality, no support for android 4.0
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

LOVE THIS DEVICE

I bought the Galaxy because you could add memory to it, unlike more expensive devices that you couldn't. It was primarily for music, but the more I used it the more I found it could do. I have yet to find anything it couldn't do! Because of my love for the galaxy, a friend of mine bought one and I bought one for a Christmas gift. You can't beat the price for what the Galaxy does.
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Inexpensive, Durable, Realistic color, Lightweight, expandable memory

Beats ipod?

The Samsung galaxy player 5 to me is a replacement iPod.
It has a 5" LCD screen front and back camera this thing is a android phone without phone service. It is a good device.

A good player

I bought a player Galaxy G 70 and I am very satisfied with its performance, in particular the possibility of being used as a pocket-sized eBook, the only real problem is that it’s not always available Wi-Fi network and would like to connect to the WEB with my Nokia N78 using the program JoikuSpot that creates a Wi-Fi network which I usually connect my laptop using Windows XP but the player with Android can not connect…, if I find a solution to this problem this is the best player in the world…
Pros: Bright display, Lightweight

This product is my dream player, With FM radio, Gps, video, and music player then add in internet explorer and email all in one little polished box. Don't forget camera and video camera, my gosh add in Skype and various games, this is just more to do than anyone can think of. I am now in player (hi-tech) heaven.. Thanks Samsung...

Cons: options need to be turned off when not needed.

Dumped my iPod and bought this!

This is much better than the iPod, the only problem is its limited capacity (up to 48GB).
