I picked up this player to enjoy my apps when my mobile contract expires, as I am fed up with expensive mobile phone plans.
I found that the screen is stunning, bright, and flawless. The backlight is intense, allowing me to see the screen in broad daylight. Many of the features of the Apple devices are rivaled by the simplicity and integration offered by the Samsung player. All but a few of my Google Apps were not supported in my Player, but those that are not supported are unnecessary.
the Player has Swype built in, and makes typing a breeze as well as traditional typing obsolete.
The Player doubles as an excellent VOIP phone, and really leaves me asking myself, "why do I need a mobile phone again?".
As for tethering when you are out and about, this thing does an excellent job and there are so many tools to help you stay connected. I find that I have no desire to use my mobile anymore, and I reach for my Player nine times out of ten.
The only thing that this thing does not do for me, is send/receive legacy SMS/MMS messages (obviously, since it is not a phone it cannot do that). But the work around is to show my friends and family other ways to communicate.
I do suggest you check out the devices locally where possible, as 5" is gorgous but not meant for everyone's individual tastes (or hand size). If you find the 5" is too large for you, check out the 4" for the right fit.
I purchased this mp3 player to be used as a music player and navigation in my car so I do not have to constantly plug in and unplug my phone. It has a big screen and color on it looks amazing! In my home I use the push email function so that I don't always have to be in front of my laptop or computer.
The speakers on this player sounds amazing and there are times when I just playback music in the room and it sounds great.
It's basically a Tablet that fits in your pocket. Works fantastic as an MP3/Video player. Runs Android app's and games. A decent camera. 8 gb and can be expanded up to 40 gigs with a 32 gb micro SD card. I am not a cellphone dependant person but still wanted WiFi access. Love It.
This thing is great! I received a Nook Tablet for Christmas but returned it for this. After playing around with the Galaxy Player 5.0, I found that it was much easier to use and read on, even though the screen was smaller than the Nook. I use it for everything, checking email, facebook, reading books, browsing the web, listening to books and music, games, and more. The camera is great too. Even though it is only 3.2p, It takes excellent stills. It does have some issues with moving objects due to low shutter speed, and the flash is not wonderful for low light areas, but overall, it's pretty good.
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Realistic color, Lightweight, camera, android market, easy to use
I would recommend this to a friend!

I love my mp3 player, especially since it is just like a phone but without the monthly charges. I just hope that someday Overdrive will support DRM/WMA and that Samsung will upgrade it to Ice Cream.
This thing kills Ipods. Bigger screen, better gaming, Allshare, does not need that "tunes" to upload music and video and the price is right. VOIP, video calls and very load speakers. Not the highest definition but I'm only picky about that when it comes to gaming.
This player is so great. the music player is much better than the ipod touch's music player. I has 60 hrs of music playback while the ipod touch has 40. I has a bigger screen and a brighter screen. I have dropped this player on concrete several times and the plastic just absorbed the drop. Anyway great device for long trips and everyday use. Fits nicely in my pocket although it sometimes falls out.
