We have owned our unit for 9 months and are very pleased with it. It always get rave reviews from all of our guests for its beauty and functional doors. It is essential that you calibrate your oven before you start using it to cook. Get a ThermoWorks Chef Alarm, read the simple instructions and calibrate your oven. It takes about 45 minutes but it is necessary. Our oven needed to be adjusted -7 degrees. The instruction for setting up your oven explains how to make the easy adjustments.
The oven is extremely intuitive and easy to use. We have used all of the functions and they make this unit very versatile. One of the complaints I have is that it takes a long time to get to temperature. 13 minutes to get to 350 degrees. Once there however it hold the temp very well. This is especially important if you are cooking multiple items with varying times. Opening and closing the door does not impact the temperature as you would think. The roll out shelves are very useful. Another issue is that the broiler is not as hot as I think it should be. There are 4 broil options: Hi/low, Convection and Low Broil crisp. High Broil is just not hot enough.
The convection functions are excellent. As is the clean function. You do not need to use the clean function for 4 hours. You can adjust that and I use it for just under 3 hours and it is fine. The glass on the doors needs attention separate and apart from cleaning the rest of the oven.
It maybe just our oven but I have stopped using the "cook time" because when the time is up the oven turns off. (The nobs do not move, it just turns off) So if you take the food out of the oven and it is not finished, you need to know to restart the temp setting. I use the "kitchen timer" feature instead as it is more functional. In truth you can set multiple times on the kitchen timer function. Unlike the cook timer, you will need to turn the oven off manually when you are finished. Although annoying, the timers alert you one minute before the time is actually up. I am guessing this is for the folks who leave the room while cooking. One caveat, the convection timing is calculated into the cook timer, not the kitchen timer.
The oven light illuminates the oven very well.
There are hot spots in this oven. Although it is even from left to right, I find the temp is nominally higher on the lowest rack level. If you like to make pizza, cook your pie on the lowest rack level. You will be rewarded.
I have never used the internal probe as I rely on the ThermoWorks. The "proof" feature is neat but I am not a baker so I cannot tell how well it works. It is simply faster than leaving your dough on the counter.
This is a wonderful oven that I am pleased we bought and I use it almost every day. It is great for thanksgiving and other holidays. Even if you never cook, this is a great appliance to look at. Your guests will be enamored with it.
Our GE oven was installed two weeks ago and I have only used it a couple of times. It is so easy to use..intuitively obvious without having to read the manual, although I do intend to do so.
