Call me old-fashioned, but I still love to get an installation CD with a product! Bought the printer yesterday after giving up the struggle to get our HP deskjet back to printing wirelessly. Seamless, thorough installation - for which I didn't mind waiting while it did its job. Used the installation software on my laptop PC and was thrilled to see that my husband could also print from his laptop Mac. Love the many features - use an Epson at work, don't know why we didn't get one for home in the first place.
Prints quickly and quietly with good quality so great for a home office but NOT a good general printer for the home.
Why not? Although Epson boasts that the 454 has "all the tools you need to take on any project", they're exaggerating considerably.
Since it lacks a straight-thru feed, the printer won't print well on anything thicker than 20# copy paper. This means it won't do cardstock, labels, or business cards, and it has issues feeding envelopes. It also won't do multi-page posters.
In other words, it's not as versatile or useful as the older, cheaper printer it replaced. It scans beautifully but takes three minutes per page. Oh, and it seems to be a an ink hog; I've had it just over a week and haven't done all that much with it but the black cartridge is empty.
However, if you do multipage reports, and need a small office photocopier with document feed, and can write off your ink purchases, this is a good printer for the price.
I love my new printer, it was easy to set, even easier to add it to my laptop. I would recommond this for anyone looking for a good quality printer thats reasonablly priced.
