This replaced a laser all-in-one I had for many years. I always had an Epson color printer for envelopes, photos and when I needed a color printout. My latest one is an Epson Workforce 30. I was so impressed with the output of that printer that, when my laser printer bit the dust, I decided to try the Workforce 545.
I run a business from my home office, so, my printer/scanner/copier/fax gets quite a workout. I have been very impressed with the performance of this machine.
Setup was simple. I have my main computer connected by USB, my laptop and my smartphone connect through WiFi. The computers connected flawlessly using the supplied disc and I downloaded the Epson iprint app from the Android Market. Print speed from the phone can be very slow if you are more than a couple of feet from the printer, but, printing from both computers is as fast as any printer I have used.
One minor complaint: pages do not collate when using the COPY function. When printing multiple copies of multiple page documents from the computer I set the Printer Preferences to print in reverse order and collate. However, when you put a multi-page document in the auto feeder and copy it, the pages come out in reverse. When I have a large document that needs multiple copies, I use the workaround of scanning to the printer instead of using COPY. That way it prints in the right order and is collated (I am using the scanner application from a third party program, you cannot do this directly from the machine or using Epson Scan on the computer. Using Epson Scan you would need to scan it to your desktop as a pdf and then print that file, one extra step but it is still easier than manually collating a lot of pages). If I am only making one copy of a multi-page document, I manually collate the copied pages.
Speed ratings are overrated because they only apply for copies after the first one. Since most items are copied or printed one at a time, that speed is not relevant. That being said, however, I find the printer is very responsive and have little lag time between pressing "print" and the machine reacting. By the time I get out of my chair and cross the room to get the printed document a page or two has printed.
The color printouts are gorgeous. What more can I say?
The scanner works great on B&W or color. Speed of scanning is dependent on the dpi setting. Again, this is as fast as any scanner I have used.
I don't use the fax a lot, but, again, the setup for using the auto answer with a standalone answering machine was quick and painless. Just follow the instructions in the user's manual.
As with all inkjet printers, it is noiser than the laser printer it replaced, but, not unreasonably so. I guess if you had a sleeping baby in the next room it could be a problem. And, like all inkjet printers, it uses ink fairly quickly, but the laser printer used toner pretty quickly (about 500 pages for a standard capacity black cartridge, 750 for the high capacity). If you are using it like I am, you definitely want to buy the high capacity cartridges, at least for the black one; and, keep extras on hand. Which color cartridges you use would, of course, depend on how much color printing you do.

The unit preformed perfectly right out of the box! Wish others could say the same. Updates were easy and went immediately to the “Downloads” area to get latest utility software and driver, as opposed to loading the disk in the box. This was simple as well. I have had so much trouble with this feature on other manufacturer’s sites, but all went extremely well. Thank you for doing all that you promote in a product! I am very pleased over all.

Nice unit for the most part

I only recently purchased this unit, so this isn't a long term review.
Pros:
Setup and installation was pretty easy, I am using it wirelessly and even that was easy.
Both the printing and scanning worked first time I tried them, no need to fiddle with settings
Printing is fast, I can't say if the claimed speeds are correct, but it appears much faster then anything I have had
Changing ink was relatively easy
Easy to read control panel
Cons
The paper cartridge was a bit tricky to figure out, it uses a weird configuration compared to other printers
Epson was a bit chincy with some of the contruction, the paper cartridge is very lightweight, and can be difficult to take out and put back in, I suspect something might break on this
The cover for the platen glass is flimsy, and looking at the paper feed assembly, I suspect it will break easily
If you power the printer down, it can take it a bit on warmup to find the network connection and connect

This is one great printer. Setup was simple. Never had to connect to computer. The printer recognized my wireless SSID and I keyed in the passcode... done! Just wanted a standalone fax/copy machine and the ability to print from iphone and ipad. My ipad recognized the printer without issues. Works great! Have not tried to wireless print from computer yet. I will eventually but just wanted to print photos from handhelds.
Great job Epson!

Great printer for the price

Picked this up on Black Friday at a great price. Installed the software as instructed and the printer was up and running in about 15 minutes. Did a couple scans, copied a couple text pages and also pictures and everything came out great. I even printed to a CD paper sleeve which my older printer could not do. The only thing that I would say is that they should have supplied a USB cable. Make sure you have one in hand before you start the installation because when the time comes to plug it in, you only have a short period of time and then it stops the installation and you have to start over again.

Getting installed

Getting my wf545 installed and getting communications established was the hardest part. That done, this wf545 is a champ. I've had 3 other Epsons and this is the best performing. That many others may have confused my computer, so I suggest that Epson make that known. I had to erase all those others before my wf545 was happy and began to operate. Now I'm happy.

Looked and looked for a machine that would do it all at a reasonable price for both machine and ink. I replaced a 20 year old laser printer,20 year old fax, 10 year old scanner and a 10 year old color printer with one machine! Setup was easy. It found my network, my android phones and my daughters laptop and it just... works! the only problem I have now is what to do with all of the outdated junk It replaced! LOL.
