It seems like I go through a lot of printers. This one seems to print faster than the others. I LOVE the wifi. It was easy to setup. Hopefully spending the extra money will pay off at the end.
The Epson WorkForce 545 is a good small job printer for home use or a small business that does not need to do high-volume prints and copies. Ink refills are reasonably priced (always get the high-capacity ones!), so the operating cost is not bad. One complaint is that if you use the printer for more than a single format paper (for example, printing envelopes for your correspondence), it is quite cumbersome to switch out the supply paper. With only a single tray and no envelope slot or other provision, one must 1. remove paper tray; 2. remove paper supply; 3. adjust paper guides; 4. insert second paper (or envelopes); 5. reinsert tray; 6. return to computer to send print job; 7. retrieve printed page or envelope; 8. pull out tray; 9. readjust paper guides; 10. reinsert first feed paper; 11. reinsert tray. That is a bunch of steps just to print an envelope! Surely this could be simplified so it does not take so much effort just to print something that must be printed many times per day in most office environments. I also own a WorkForce 845 (with 2 feed trays) and it is no easier, even with the second tray, since tray 2 does not accept envelopes. I hope Epson addresses this in future versions of their good inkjet printers.
This printer is performing satisfactorily for everything except printing envelopes. The speed is good and the capacity is adequate for a small office, but the automatic document feeder will not carry more than about 15 pages without error.
I like : 1. the color and 2. the speed. 3. special options for photo printing
I don't like: 1. when I copy a stack of papers, the copy comes out in backwards sequence and I have to manually reorder them. 2. to print one envelope I have to unload all the other paper, reset the paper guides, print the envelope, then reset the paper guides, and reload the regular paper. My last printer had a manual feed that made envelope printer quick and easy.
General speaking this printer is OK but I would not buy it again. I make too many copies of papers that have 5 to 8 pages and reordering is getting to be a pain.
Excellent machine for wireless printing, scanning, etc. I connected it to both a new PC and an old MacBook. I am having trouble getting it fully interfaced to a new MacBookPro using Lion OS 10.8.2 . It will print but not scan. -- need help here
I love my Epson 545. It is more than I expected, perhaps not all that you could dream about, but definitely a great deal. My next printer will be an Epson that is fully automated but that is in the future. The 545 fills all my printing needs.
