The lower horizintal paper feed needs re-designing. It works part of the time and will not without great many tries accept the heavy weight super high gloss paper. This flaw renders this 545 printer useless for my purpose of printing high quality color prints.
It works fine using the single weight paper for letters, etc. I have found the vertical gravity feed printers (WE-2540) very dependable for high quality and consistent heavy paper color prints.
My tests were quite exhaustive trying to use the 545 for my heavier weight color prints. I won't buy another one with a horizontal feed. This is David Cornwell
My biggest issue with the Epson Workforce 545 is scanning. The instructions are lacking in explanation of how to do certain functions such as scanning to e-mail or just plain scanning to a file. This may have something to do with my lack of savvy of computers even though I consider myself a half way decent user.
So far this is the worst printer I have ever had. I just got it this week. Installation has taken an entire day and the printer still won't work. It has apparently installed as a fax only printer. I don't want a fax. I don't need a fax. I did not hook up the phone cable on purpose. I want a printer and it won't print. This is at least my 3rd Epson printer, but I am ready to change brands. It won't use the same USB cable as my other Epson printer which just died. I had to go to 5 different stores to find the cable which did not come with the printer (missing a cable was not a surprise. They said it would not come with a cable). I've never had a problem installing any other other printer and I can't get this to work. I'm ready to throw it off my deck. You should not have sent me this review e-mail when I can't get my printer to print.
After getting my network to work, the printer behaves very nicely. I can access it from any of the devices we have; no problems at all. And very clean, professional-looking results.
After using the Epson Workforce 545 for over a year we are very satisfied. Setup was simple and we were using the printer within minutes. Though sometimes unable to scan to PC using the LCD panel ("Communication error. Make sure the computer is connected, then try again."), we work around this by using EPSON Scan program on the PC. The iPad app is just as easy to set up, but does not facilitate scanning to multiple page PDF documents as EPSON Scan on the PC does.
Pros: Simple software install and wireless network setup Easy to use LCD panel and PC software interface Handy iPad app Very good print, copy and scan quality
Cons: Sometimes unable to connect to PC when scanning using LCD iPad app does not scan multiple pages to a single PDF file
Summary: We are very happy with this all-in-one printer. Based on our experience the value is unbeatable. Any deficiencies we found are minor, given that there is a simple workaround for everything we need to do.
I bought this printer when I decided to go back to college, and I need to say, after two years I've used it almost daily for assignments and articles. I've only had to replace the ink in its whole spectrum ONCE. I am very impressed at the longevity this product incorporates. It's wonderful to see a product designed to actually last! Printers I've owned before would work only for a couple of months and then completely shut down. WorkForce 545 has held up to everything I've thrown at it. KUDOS!
