An excellent printer -- with a couple of notes

I have been an Epson printer user for many years and when my last Epson color printer went bad, I looked at many different all-in-one printers before deciding on the Workforce 845 printer. It had good, but not always spectacular reviews, particularly regarding ink problems.
In general, I have found it to be an excellent printer that does everything it says it will do and does it well. I am particularly impressed that it works extremely well with Linux -- a problem with most previous printers I've had.
I was worried about the reported problems with ink and have been very careful to purchase only Epson ink. So far, there has not been a problem. However, that said, the ink does seem to be used faster than in my previous printers and I'm using the extended size cartridges and do not do a lot of printing.
The biggest problem has been with Windows 7. Windows sometimes loses connection to either the scanner or printer or both and you cannot re-establish connection without removing the driver software and re-installing -- sometimes up to three times. This mostly happens because I have the printer set for wireless and a power failure has caused the printer to get a different IP address. Since fixing the IP address in the router, the problem has been much reduced.
The print quality has been excellent and the scanner and fax have both worked without problem. The same is true for both Windows and Linux and the Linux part was a significant surprise.
I would not hesitate to recommend this printer. However, there are reports that, like some other Epson printers, there is a maximum page count on this printer. I don't expect to hit this, but a person printing a significant amount may.
Pros: Excellent printing. Good double-sided as well as single Good scanning and faxing even on VOIP Reliable and relatively jam free Works with both Windows, Linux and Android
Cons: Reports of ink problems that I have not seen Changing IP addresses confuse Windows Some jams, especially with double side printing, but minimal Speed is not terrific

Workforce 845

I purchased the printer about a year ago, printer works fine the ability to print on both sides of the paper is a great feature and save paper. The copy, fax and scan feature work well without any problems. The only problem that I have with the Workforce 845 is that sometimes the color print quality is not very good. The colors printed are different than the colors being printed and sometimes the ink look like it smear and in some place you are unable to read the print. I have found no way to correct this problem. All in all for the price this is a good printer.

The Epson WorkFore 845 has been one of the best purchases I have made. I've never written a product review before, but this machine deserves it. I find it very easy to use. All of the functions are reliable and easy to manage--especially for someone without tech skills. It was larger than I had imagined, since I was used to a tiny desktop printer, but I have not regretted it for an instant and would recommend it without hesitation to anyone in need of one reliable, good-looking, sturdy machine to simplify your work. It is an amazing tool. Easy to change ink; paper never jams; always works--I've owned it for a year. No regrets!

2 in a row with problems

Got the first 845 workforce and it quit working well after about 6 months. It required opening the lid and pulling out all the cartridges and then replacing them to print one document. I returned the product and received a refurbished replacement of the exact same model. This one worked for a month and then required two of the cartridges to be removed and then it would print. The scanner has worked pretty well but occasionally it skews the page counter clockwise enough to make the document look like a slacker did the scanning. I probably won't buy one of these again.

Epson Workforce 845 All-in-one Printer

The printer is o.k., but not superb. Printing is fine but the feed often sends an extra blank sheet out. I do not care for the envelope addressing function as one needs to remove all paper from Tray 1 to adjust the envelope holders. The scanner does not do a credible job on a document. The print is illegible. Surprisingly though, it copies a document well.
I would not purchase this printer again. I've had Epson printers before but this one is disappointing.

This is a great all in one printer. I love it. I like that it prints fast and the two sided printing is a plus.
