problems with default paper source
on February 16, 2012

I like the printer. Setup was easy. Print quality is acceptable. The duplex function is great. However, there is a serious flaw in the drivers/default paper source. Tray 2 is for plain paper only, tray 1 is for plain paper/envelopes/photo paper. Everything in the drivers defaults to tray 1. Printing from Ipod defaults to tray 1. Copying defaults to tray 1. So, it is impossible keep tray 1 loaded with photo paper and tray 2 loaded with plain paper. I tried that. My kids school reports keep burning up my photo paper by accident. Epson-please provide a fix for this issue! I will change my rating to 5 stars if there is new firmware and drivers to fix this issue.

I AM IMPRESSED
on December 17, 2011

Pros:
7.8-inch touch-screen display with a 3.5-inch color LCD
High Capacity Ink Cartridges INCLUDED
Functionality
Dual Paper Trays
Relatively Compact Size based on Multi-Function Capability
Relatively Lightweight
Two-Sided Printing
Two-Sided Scan and Copy
Wireless
iPhone and iPad Printing
Connect Email Print Application
Cons:
Less than perfect text alignment (may be related to print speed)
Average photo speed and quality
Auto Document Feeder does not resize to fit small 4x6-inch photo paper
I just installed my WorkForce 845. Thusfar, it has exceeded my expectations. The workmanship, design, quality, are all superior.
Setup was simple, and excellent instructions are provided. It literally took less than two minutes to be fully-functional. Four high-capacity ink cartridges are included! This is a real bonus compared to competitors.
The test page printed very well. I sent a FAX successfully. I also scanned a document with no problems whatsoever.
I particularly like the relatively small size and light weight, based on competitor's machines with similar functions. It is designed with the user in mind. The front panel even tilts upward to make it easier to see the 7.8-inch touch-screen display with a 3.5-inch color LCD.
Connecting through Wi-Fi also means you can take advantage of Epson's host of free mobile printing apps that let you print directly from mobile devices.
Connect Email Print lets you send a print job directly to a unique e-mail address assigned to every WorkForce 845 printer. This means you can attach anything to an e-mail and send it to the printer's e-mail address, and the print job will be waiting for you in the output tray when you arrive home. Anyone can use the e-mail address, and we can imagine it could come in handy for remote workers hoping to share information with the home office.
I have noticed less than perfect text alignment, but I believe it may be related to the extremely quick print speed.
Photos take much longer to print and are of average quality. If you are looking for high-quality photo printing, this may not be the perfect machine for you. However, if you are looking for high-efficiency features like an autodocument feeder, an autoduplexer, and less expensive ink cartridges then this machine may be just what you are looking for. I would highly recommend it for a small office environment.

LOVE this printer...

this has got to be the first printer i've ever had that printed what you actually see on screen! this is huge for me as i edit my photos and hate outputs that are not what you created...
love that it prints FAST, there is a dual tray, 2sided printing, 2sided auto-feed scan, and AirPrint capability (main reason for purchase- replacing artisan 800).
my one complaint (which i've read in another post) is when printing from AirPrint, it prints from cassette 1 and no option to select cassette 2 which only allows plain paper- which would make sense to make as default if you happen to have photo paper, envelopes, etc... regularly in cassette 1. i'm hoping it's a simple update in AirPrint to resolve the problem, and in the near future!
other than that- this is the perfect printer for me :)

Set up is flawed

I am not a heavy user so I will never be a good source for long term user information.
Two areas I know need improvement.
1. The drivers that came with my unit did not work & I had to spent 4 hours (with tech support & download time) to resolve the issues.
2. The cable (which does not come with the unit & this not noted on the outside of the box) is not identified as a "USB PRINTER CABLE" & the setup illustration does not provide a very clear image of what printer end looks like.
3. I would grade setup as a “B”.

Great printer for the price

After having a horrible experience of not getting two of the same printers to work and having to return them I did some research and found this model highly rated and reviewed. I saw that this printer was on a Black Friday special so I went to the store offering it to check it out. I had the salesman demonstrate the printer for me to see what features it has and how noisy (or not) it was. It was quiet, It did the things it claimed to do and did them well. i.e., print, scan, copy. I didn't try the fax for I won't be using it. I scanned in an item with very fine print and it was easy to read and clear. The printer printed photos and documents quickly with good quality. One of the features that grabbed my attention was the 500 sheet capacity. Another plus about this printer is was so much easier to set up than the previous two I battled with.

Best printer I have ever owned!

I recently purchased a Epson 845. I have a Epson 840, as my home printer and when I needed a printer for my auction house, I wanted no less than the best. The Epson 845 has the capability of sending images from your Android device to your printer thru email. In the auction business this is a valuable tool to have. I would advise anyone that is looking for a printer to explore the wide range of capabilities and choose a Epson printer. The Epson 840 claimed that the ink cartridges would be good for 6 months. I didn't have to replace my cartridges until 13 months after the date of purchase. Twice what they said I could expect. The life of the cartridges was greatly increased because of Epson's feature that cleans your ink cartridges when they have not been used for a few days.Bottom line. Epson is the best printer on the market.

So far, so good

So, I purchased this printer the first day it was on the market. My HP printer had finally pushed us over the edge and after doing some research we decided we wanted the Epson 840. Unfortunately, it was discontinued and we were unable to find it anywhere. I ordered the printer from Epson online and was pleasantly surprised when it arrived 3 days later. I took it out of the box and had it on my wireless network in 10 minutes. The set up was very easy. The complete set up on my computer took about 30 mins. due to software loading, but I was able to run it without being present the entire time. So far I have been very pleased with the printer. The set up was easy, the printing quality is very good, and the printer is very fast. The only con is that it is a little noisy when printing, I wouldn't even mention it, but I have nothing else to complain about so I thought I would throw it in.

Epson Workforce 845 All-in-One
on October 25, 2011

I have had the all-in-one for about one week, and I really like this machine. I can print from my desktop or my Ipad 2. Scanning and printing are superb - no problems. I set-up the fax and ran a test of the fax connection and all is well. I have had two previous all-in-one printers, not Epsons, and the 845 is by far the best! The only issue I had was with the set-up. The instructions were somewhat confusing to me, and I was just about to install the software when I decided to call tech support. I spoke with Mark, who was without a doubt, the most professional, patient and helpful person with whom I have ever spoken to about computer-related issues. He walked me through every step of the installation process. I didn't even have to use the software on the CD. All-in-all, I am extremely happy with the 845 and the support I received from Mark.
