This unit is so sleek and compact, you can't intuitively get it to work. There's no on/off button visible, can't visibly see how to open the tray. Very frustrating. If using the remote there are no instructions on what to do if certain things don't work. I'd like the good old fasioned box with visible buttons I can push, rather than having to go get a flashlight to see for manual operations.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

A perfect Disc player

Because this DVD player works exactly as described, it counts as a perfect player for me. My last player, from another company, quit playing anything but Blu-Ray discs, and that was a pain. This Sony unit seems to synchronize nicely with my Sony television, my Sony sound bar, and the Verizon DVR. No compatibility issues.

needs more

great for dvds but the streaming needs improvement. there are hundreds of apps to choose from but you only have 8 apps to choose as your favorites so any time you want to watch one that is not on your favorites you have to scroll through all the hundreds to find it and there should also be some thing to either get rid of apps or mark them and make them move to the bottom of the list so you do not have to waste so much time scrolling though ones you do not care for. please update for unlimited apps on my favorites list!!!

This BDP S5200 Sony wireless disc player does everything you could want. I just viewed a 3D movie using this Sony player and the performance is the best ever. The unit is small so it fits in tight places. A-plus for building a great disc player unit.

Movies load up much faster compared to my older Blu-Ray player. The ability to connect to internet services like Netflix, Amazon and Hulu is great if you are not a gamer and want these features without owning a game console.

Surprisingly Easy Setup

We bought this to replace an older DVD player that did not support WiFi and some of the newer BlueRay features. The setup was pretty painless and the operation has been very good. Very nice features with the new BluRay technology as well as Streaming video from many different vendors such as NetFlix.
