Super DVD

This DVD player connects to the internet and downloads movies faster and without any breaks in the playback for reloading. The DVD disk playback is of better quality and the center channel sound is much clearer. Can't wait to get the Sony 4K 3D 65 inch television!!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Wanted to Love This Player But Can't
on April 1, 2015

Sony has been my brand by choice. I have always had a great experience from other products until this purchase. I have to continuously reset the player. I am having the same problems that others seemed to be having with this particular model. The player worked fine for the first 6 months but not any more.

door fell off after a month. Spent time with customer service who suggested a re boot??? I now get to send the top of the line blue ray to TX, (ON MY DIME), for another that could be refurbished??? I've bought Sony all my life but this will be the last Sony product. Bad service, worse quality.

Solid performer with some quirks
on December 28, 2014

Bought this unit to replace a Samsung BD-C6500. Overall we've been very happy with it. Usually loads blu-ray discs in less than a minute from a cold start. Streams Pandora, Amazon Prime Movies and Netflix well via Wi-Fi connection. Menus are easy to navigate.
Quirks that may be annoying: 1)Randomly have to re-enter username and password for apps...have not been able to identify cause (doesn't coincide with software updates) 2)Randomly freezes, usually at shutdown, requiring it to be unplugged from the wall outlet before restarting (does not seem to be connected to quirk#1) 3)Pyramid Top?
I got this and the very first day, it died. Fiddled with the plugs, nothing. Turned the TV on, rebooted the cable and it came on. It has since done this on 3 separate occasions. Doesn't make any sense as from all appearances it looks as if there is no power to it in spite of everything plugged in properly. The remote is small and needs to be back lit. In a dark room, there is no way you can use this reliably. You have to turn on a light. When you fast forward, it jumps ahead instead of the picture filing past so you can tell where you want to stop it. Makes it really frustrating as I am always having to fast forward then rewind, fast forward and rewind again. I expected better quality from Sony.

Speed of light

I bought this player to replace a 5-year-old Blu-ray player (Samsung). Wow -- what an upgrade! Incredibly fast connecting to Wi-fi AND streaming content, the latter only limited by some bandwidth hogs nearby. Great picture from Blu-ray discs and upconverted DVDs. Flawless audio too -- and it plays SACDs. Don't have (and don't want) a 3D TV but I do plan to upgrade to a 4K TV soon. I bought this player to be ready when I do. Unit is amazingly small and lightweight but I don't expect any durability problems. I bought a Sony BDP-S580 for the bedroom system 3 years ago and it's been a flawless performer.

Upscaling is Good

Easy to set up. I have a new 4K television and I can really tell the difference between this Blu -ray player and my last Sony player. I have no problems with the WiFi being strong enough and I love the box being inside a cabinet. I do have to have the tiny receiver outside my solid wood cabinet, but this is preferable to looking at the entire apparatus.

Nice when it works

This DVD player periodically locks up and has to be reset. I have to unplug the unit and plug it back in. I can't believe Sony released a product like this. I am not the only one having this problem. Check online and you will find plenty reviews saying the same thing.
