Miracast idea sucks.

I had a hard time trying to work with Miracast. I looked in the manual and did everything according to the instructions. I had the app on my iPhone and tried every single app and nothing.
I even called support to help me out and after being on hold for about 15 minutes and a few transfers, a person told me that it doesn't work because the TV (which is a sony also) needs to have Miracast technology as well.
So, both TV and the blu-ray player needs Miracast turned on. My TV doesn't have it, but the blu-ray does. I looked all over the manual and no where does it say both needs it.
It seems to always needs to confirm internet connection and goes through steps. Not too wife friendly.
Other than that, it does what is suppose to do.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Wi-fi DOES NOT WORK! DOES NOT WORK AS ADVERTISED!
on September 27, 2014

I am a fool. I bought (3) of these SONY Blu-ray WI-Fi disc players because the packaging said in addition to playing Blu-ray DVD's, they were Wi-Fi capable and I would be able to stream movies and obtain other video content from the Web. That is absolutely not true. I thought the machine was broken, or I had a poor internet connection. All of this was thoroughly checked by an electronics professional. I investigated this model on the internet (which I should have done before I purchased) and found that there was an error in SONY's programming, as well as other problems with this DVD player and that it is not capable of connecting to the internet. By the time I realized the real issue, it was too late to return them. I feel like a fool for having purchased 3 (all purchased to upgrade my current DVD players). I thought SONY was a reputable company. I will NEVER buy a SONY product again. I wasn't even going to bother rating this product, but I didn't want other consumers to waste their money. The machine plays DVDs--but that is all it is capable of doing.

Two stars because it was simple to install.
However the box indicated services that are NOT AVAILABLE.
(VUDU, Amazon -- the reason I purchased this player.)

worst experience ever

The manual that came with our product showed what cables and things were included. However, when I called Sony they said that it doesn't come with it. Why is it in my included cables? It is not with it. It is supposed to be. So Thanks Sony, as I will never buy another Sony product. All over a cable wire.(HDMI)

Slow User Interface
on September 26, 2014
Posted by: Anonymous
This Blue Ray DVD player is small and does what it's supposed to do. But the user interface is so slow it's frustrating to use. There is a 1-3 second delay between pushing any button and the response (yes, including the power button to power light turning on). We use it mostly for Netflix, and again it's functional but terrible to use because of the control delay. The menus are flashy/showy, but not very efficient - they use linear menus instead of 2-D menu selections, so you can only see a few choices at a time.
The remote is small, which is nice. But it doesn't have a number pad, so it cannot be programmed to operate your TV (unless it's also a Sony), so it takes yet another remote to view videos.

No streaming to TV

Player needs to be connected to the TV with HDMI cable always. Receives WiFi input but does not stream out content to Smart-TV without HDMI cable connection.
