great bluray for price

I have no idea on reliability, however I am using it in my van and I stream from my phone to it using the wireless screen mirroring on my galaxy S3. It works great for it. I haven't used anything else but I imagine the Bluray and DVD properties are great as well.

Terrible.

This product is terrible. My ability to connect to Netflix was abysmal. I bought this to upgrade my 7 year old wireless connected DVD player and this one is worse. It would take me several attempts to connect and when it finally would I could watch 3 seconds and then it would take 10 miinutes to load. Netflix worked just fine on iPad, laptop, and streaming tv downstairs this entire time. I'd send it back if I hadn't thrown away the box.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The Internet connection speed can vary for many reasons. Below are the most common causes:

*Network Sharing
*Wireless Connection Strength
*Router Type
*Connection to Your ISP

Any wireless product can experience slow connection speeds. It is normally due to the distance away from the router or other electronic devices in the home interfering with the wireless signal. To improve the wireless connection, try moving the router access point closer to the Sony product that is streaming the video. If the router is close enough, using a wired Ethernet connection is suggested instead.

Sony recommends using a wireless (N) router for streaming Internet video. Using a wireless (B) router will not work very well, if at all, for streaming video and would be the cause of the video stopping, pausing or playing poorly. A wireless (G) router is not as fast as (N), but should be able to reliably stream video. However, HD video will stream better with (N).

NOTE: A connection speed of 2.5 Mbps or higher is recommended for streaming standard definition (SD) Internet video, and a connection speed of 10 Mbps or higher is recommended for streaming high definition (HD) Internet video.

I have owned MANY Sony products over the years and this is the first one I don't like. I had wanted a Sony Blu-ray player for a while and was waiting to catch one on sale, so when I saw this one marked down I was extremely happy. Now I'm not! The software in this device is prone to locking up and the only way to clear it is to remove all power from it. When it does work properly, it works well, but the reason I buy Sony products in the first place is to avoid annoying problems like this one. This turned out to be a very disappointing purchase.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

this is a better idea than buying a smart tv

product is pretty small and sleek. only one not very bright light on during operation so its not distracting when on in a dark room. easy to navigate on product if you know sony products and if not still not bad. in my opinion the remote isn't easy to feel the buttons in the dark and impossible to see in the dark. it does not have a center pin screw on cable port, i think it would be nice if it did. i know it wouldn't be HD but id to be able to buy more to use on my other tvs.
