Highly recommend!

I had never owned a gas cook top before I purchased this product. I can't tell you the difference in how much better gas cooks! The food cooks more evenly and you have more control of the temperature. I am totally enjoying this appliance. We went with a 36" cooktop and a 30" oven. It filled the space of our old 36" jenn air appliance. We added granite and painted the cabinetry and the kitchen update looks beautiful. See photos.

Stainless steel cooktop

This cooktop was installed by the builder. The appearance is very nice and functions well. However the stainless steel scratches very easily which is a downside to this cooktop.

Poor quality and performance

Two years old and the gas knobs started sticking. Then, while using the large center burner the gas knob broke in the full on position. This appliance came with the two year old home we purchased.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

After reading other reviews I was concerned about the time it takes to cook and boil water. I have been using this cooktop for about 3 months now and do not have any complaints. We switched from electric to gas and it takes some getting used to, but seems to cook great for me.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great Look with not very good qualities

The builder offered this as an upgraded GE appliances and we were very happy until we used it.
I love GE appliances and I still love it as I used it for several years; I have all the GE appliances and I am very happy except this cooktop.
The look is very impresive but it takes forever to cook and it takes a lot of time compared to my old house GE cooktop. The big difference is the grate which is heavy and strong and good looking but the flames remain very far from the pots and takes long time to cook and my wife hate this.

Great Product AND It Fits My Space!

We had to replace a 30+ year old stainless steel cook top. It was top of the line when new, but the manufacturer was bought out years ago, and it was an odd size, between 30 and 36 inches. Because of drawers and cabinets beneath the counter on each side, we had minimal space to work with to accommodate a wider cook top. We wanted a 36-inch, and this GE model was one of the few cook tops that would fit without major cabinet renovations. We are extremely pleased with the GE Profile PGP976SETSS. It looks great and performs superbly. We love the big, 17,000 burner, which really heats up a big pot or kettle in a hurry, and we also are impressed with the tiny little flame that is possible on the simmer burner. Of course, even the simmer burner, when placed on high, probably provides more heat than the old cook top we replaced. I like the ability to use different sized burners for different purposes. It is also very convenient to be able to slide pots all over the surface grates. A nice feature is the little light behind the knob when the burner is turned on. We noticed how useful that is when we had one of the burners turned down so low it was difficult to see the flame. Without the behind-the-knob indicator, we might have forgotten the burner was on at all. Having just cleaned the area under the top of my old cook top, which was made in the days before sealed burners, I appreciate how much easier it is to keep this unit clean. I let some pasta water get a little over eager, and it spilled over. Later, after dinner, I cleaned it up so the surface looks good as new. Last night, I had droplets of oil splatter the stainless steel surface, and they cleaned up easily as well. The nice man who installed the cook top had advised me to spray the surface with a good quality stainless steel cleaner before using it, sort of like "seasoning" a cast iron skillet, to make future clean ups easier. That turned out to be excellent advice. My husband and I both love this cook top. Although it was installed only recently -- July 2 -- we have used it quite a lot already. We recommend it highly.
