We went for the 7 qt. if I'm going to cook I want to make a lot of good food. We're so glad to have purchased this product. First thing I did was to heat water on "low setting" and learn the temps than I shut it off, let it cool down, then went to the "high setting." Last week I cooked a 6 lb. beef pot roast, carrots, potatoes, etc. following the enclosed suggestions. Ran it for 5-6 hours...came out awesome and soooo tender. Got 5-stars for that. New Years Eve, we did a 13 lb. turkey. I took the skin off, carved the breast off, separated the sections and laid it in the pot with all the seasons....was awesome...parts fell from the bones....another 5-stars. Best thing I bought for the kitchen and me!
Pros: well built the pot is so solid and holds the heat, oval shape takes less space, cooker and server all in one
Cons: husband now the cook!, i do wish the cord was longer.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I have had this for 4+ years and use it regularly and have rarely had any issues! The other day we learned the low setting no longer works after we set some venison in to cook overnight. Not sure what the problem is but this is pretty frustrating.

AZ summers and using the oven don't mix. My kitchen becomes a sauna. Crock-Pot has always been a reliable and delicious way to cook, but absolutely essential to me at this time of year. I was so excited to purchase this beauty yesterday! My old one had finally given out after years of use, so I bought a similar model. Tonight we're having a pot roast, something we love, but certainly something I couldn't cook for hours in the oven! As always, I know that I'll be really pleased with the results. Crock Pot has always been dependable, quality cookware that never disappoints. Low and slow, I'm getting great steam and looking forward to an enjoyable summer of meals with my new crockpot...in a cool kitchen!

Have used a Crock Pot for over 25 yrs. I finally had to replace mine because the handle on the cover broke and I could not find a replacement cover to fit it. The crock pot still works great, but wanted one with a cover on it. I love the different sizes Crock Pot offers. I also have their mini one and use it often too. Would highly recommend them to everyone!!!
Pros: allows me to do other things
Cons: no replacement cover for older pots

Broke after only second use

I had the exact same experience as previous reviewer Jengraham. I received the 7 quart oval model as a wedding gift 3.5 years ago. I finally got to unpack all my gifts and open the Crockpot for the first time last month. Mine worked fine on low for 6 hours the first time, but during the second use on low for 8 hours my oval insert developed several microscopic cracks and leaked into the metal heating base. I smelled burning, had a mess burned onto the inside of the metal base and it had leaked all over my countertop and everything that was on the counter.
I am so disappointed. I just took it out of the box, used it twice and handled it with extreme care. I contacted Crockpot to ask how to clean the unit and what to do about the leak. They said it was out of warranty and offered a small percentage off the purchase of another Crockpot.

I bought this crock pot in October and have used it four times. The last time I made soup, left it on low for 5 hours and came back to an exploded mess. The entire inner pot cracked and sent shards flying. Food leaked all into the heating surface and all over my counter. Seriously disappointed.

I own the SCCPVC709-S 7qt. Programmable Stainless Crock Pot. It cooks waaaay too hot. Example: I put my chili ingredients on high and in about 1.5 hours it is bubbling and boiling. I turn it down to "keep warm" and it continues to boil. I take the lid off and it continues to boil. My husband ruined 2 roasts last week that were charred after being put on the "low" setting for the day. I guess we'll be replacing this with another brand.
The size is great, but I can't leave it unattended so it really isn't very useful. My old crockpot (5 qt) I had for about 10-12 years was great, but not big enough for our large family.
Cons: way too hot, can't leave it unattended.

Thank you for your feedback! On your slow cooker, both high and low stabilize at the same temperature (209°F); it is just a matter of how long it takes to reach the simmer point. On high, it takes approximately 3-4 hours, whereas on low, it takes approximately 7-8 hours to reach the simmer point. Once food reaches the simmer point, total cook time is dependent on cut and weight of meat to reach the point of maximum flavor and texture potential. Most dishes can be prepared on either high or low. This is uniform across all of our current models. On the warm setting, your slow cooker will be between 165-175°F. Please remember that these are all approximate temperatures and they can vary depending on what you are cooking. The unit can also boil on high and low. We do recommend that you always fill your slow cooker 1/2 - 3/4 of the way full, including at least one cup of liquid or sauce. You may have to adjust your cook times accordingly, especially if you are using older slow cooker recipes, or adapting regular recipes for slow cooker use. This will prevent the food from drying out and burning.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was a placement product due to a product recall. Not only was the company prompt, but gave me a totally new and complete crockpot. Above and beyond all expectations!
