Here are the steps for free motion quilting using a drop in table: 1. unplug foot pedal and power cord 2. lift machine out of table 3. remove slide off cover 4. reach around back and drop feed dogs 5. replace slide off cover 6. put machine back into table 7. plug in power and pedal cords. !!!!!!*******!!!! I have had a fashion mate for one year and made 8 quilts, including a free motion using darning plate. Love it. I do not know how well this one will do on free motion as I have not started using it yet. The reason I have not started is because the machine is not working properly and I have scheduled to have it replaced (owned one week). The stitch length is inconsistent 12-15 per inch because the machine's computer is messed up. When I turn it on the default info only reads "00". The bobbin winder made enough thunkata thunkata noise that I looked at it closely to find rust around the bottom of the spindle. On looking closer I found rust inside the spindle was coming out. I hope the replacement functions properly, I do like singers in general. I am giving this 5 stars so it will go to the top so others can read it. i am hoping that i can write another review on a working one later.

This machine is PERFECT for all projects, and it works exceptionally well for quilting and designs.. Easy to rewind bobbins, which I love... I often just make many color bobbins at the same time. Then it's off to sewing away... Plan to spend much more time sewing after my surgery heals.

It has been years since I have owned a sewing machine. I like the quietness and the ease of sewing on the Confidence Quilter Machine.I haven't sewn any quilts as of yet I have sewed many projects and havent had any problems what so ever. I will be using more stiches when I have more projects to work on I am sure the machine will sew beautifully. I would recommend this machine.
