I bought refurbished machine and because it is called quilter I thought it would be for me to quilt small projects on without using my long arm quilter, but I lowered my sewing machine feed dogs and the machine would not sew. That was the second time that it happened to me so I am very disappointed in the that sewing machine, I own 4 other singer sewing machines and this so called "quilter" is not a quilting machine. So I would never buy this singer ever again.

Not Happy

I loved sewing on this machine. However, my main reason for this machine is quilting. That's where I'm not happy. I was quilting the top of a lap quilt, the first one on my new machine, and it quit working. I had to send off to have it looked at. The diagnosis was it needs a new motor. I was told it would take three months to get a new motor. Thank goodness it was still under warranty. The bad part was that I still had a quilt to finish not to mention two others to quilt for Christmas gifts.

I loved the way it sewed. the problem is that it made like a grinding noise in two different places. So I am sending this one back and they are sending me a new one. hopefully the new one will not have the problems this one does.

The motor burns up when you quilt. I had this machine for 3 months and quilted 3 quilts. The motor overheated and froze on me. I had it replaced and had to PAY for the labor. That motor burned up too. Don't waste your money on this machine.

I bought this about 4 yrs ago and it has bee adequate, at best. There's always been something going on with it. Now none of my decorative stitches work. All I get is a straight stitch. It's bee frustrating to use that machine.

My Mother purchased machine Sept 2010--hadn't really used it when I borrowed it. I used it alot in the 4 weeks I had it. Then my young grandson attempted to plug in the speed control pedal & broke the Pin Jack Harness off. I think it was defective but the store won't do anything about it & You can't reach singer for anything. Even sent an email with no response. VERY disappointed that a 15 month old can break an internal part. PLASTIC---what quality---even radio shack has the part as metal.

I agree with others with negative reviews, and will explain why. I bought the Confidence Quilter to start quilting. You would think with "quilter" in the name they would put effort into making it a WORTHWHILE machine. Meanwhile I have to wonder for all of the people who have reviewed this item, who amongst them who gave 5 stars for "quilting" are not just piecing together a top to a quilt and sending that elsewhere for final quilting... or are only using straight stitch-in-the-ditch with the walking foot. If that's the case, then props. This machine is spot on awesome. However. My own problems with the machine are as follows. It is impossible for me to lower the feed dogs, first of all. The inside of the machine, that which you cannot see, is largely made of plastic. This is why the machine is so light. When I lower the feed dogs, the only part that IS metal (and connected to the feed dogs themselves) slips off of the plastic "foot" that controls whether they are up or down. I do not say this because I have X-Ray vision--I say this because I had to have the machine repaired, and the technician told me this. He said "never lower the feed dogs. Ever. EVER." And explained why. I was good for months, did nothing but straight stitching. Then I wanted to try quilting again. So I lowered the feed dogs and whaddaya know, I can't raise them again. I thought to myself "DARN IT... but okay, that's my fault. I will just make this forever and for always my 'quilting' machine, and never need to raise the feed dogs again." Nevermind the fact that I would have to buy a new machine for this plan. But come to the second part of my anger with this machine--without the added assistance of the feed dogs, the tension is completely and utterly messed up. Whether I'm at 3+ or 3- or even on AUTO, my top thread is too loose and my bobbin won't turn at all, resulting in the bobbin thread getting lost and the stitches not taking. I don't plan on getting rid of this machine. It works fine if you work with it on its terms--only straight stitching, keep the feed dogs UP, and neeeeeeeever do any actual free-motion quilting. So I'm going to get it fixed--but I'll be buying another machine from another company, and I'm sad to say I am so very disappointed in Singer. I thought this was a company that was trustworthy. This machine proves otherwise.
