cooktop too high from flame

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We should have paid more attention to the reviewer that stated the flame was too far. Despite the responses that said otherwise, the grates are way too far above the flame. This causes not just a waste of gas, but the pot handles get very, very hot due to the escape of heat along the sides, and the kitchen also gets very hot in the summer, especially if you have multiple burners on simultaneously. If GE would address this issue, I would have immediately given it a 5 star rating, but at this point we have told friends and family not to purchase this model and to pay close attention to other models that they are considering. Since purchasing this model, I have been to several houses that have gas cooktops from other manufacturers, and many of them have better clearances. Unfortunately for us, it's too late. I urge GE to make a new, lower grate and would even be willing to purchase it. It looks great and has plenty of nice features, but if you actually want to cook, look elsewhere.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

good control easy cleaning

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We bought this cooktop to replace an older gas cooktop when we put in granite countertops. We got matching electric double ovens at the same time. The counter guys cut the opening according to the installation instructions. I removed the old cooktop and installed the new one myself. The installation instructions are easy to follow and not difficult at all. The old cooktop had pilot lights and this one uses electronic ignition. This is safer and of course does not produce any heat unless cooking. It does require an electrical outlet. I was able to run the line from a nearby service panel. If you do not have an outlet nearby, an electrician should be able to do this for you. I also had to extend a gas line to the right side of the cabinet. The old cooktop connected on the left side. A plumber can do this for you if your connection is not in the proper location. The location of the electrical and gas connections are well illustrated in the installation documents sent with the cooktop. I got the instructions online before the cooktop was delivered so that all of the cabinet work, gas and electrical connections were in place before the cooktop arrived. The installation then was very quick. The cooktop worked well. The largest burner can really put out the heat for large pots. The top is easy to clean if there are any spills. We like the griddle that replaces the grill over the two burners on the left side. The grill and griddle are both heavy for my wife. The griddle works well for meats, sandwiches, tortillas, French toast. The surface slopes slightly to allow grease to drain, but this makes cooking pancakes or eggs more difficult, because they run into the drain. Overall we like the cooktop. It looks very nice and will handle any of you cooking requirements.

A really nice appliance

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wish I had bought this cooktop a long time ago. It replaced a 36" "top of the line" cooktop and is by far a much better product. Foods cook faster and the simmer on the low burner has proven to be ideal for pesto. The best part is that two or more large pots can sit on the top with room spare and still able to use all five burners at the same time if desired. That to me is the best feature. The cooktop looks nice and the heavy grills seem to be very durable and will not move around. Product is still fairly new to me but very happy with it.

Love the burner lock

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have only cooked on my new cook top for a few weeks but I love it. I was cooking on an old electric cook top that was terrible. I have 3 children so I was super impressed with the locking alarm for the gas burners. I just did a complete kitchen remodel and the GE Cafe line looks great in it! I am super happy with my all of my Cafe appliances.

Excellent quality gas cooktop

I love my cook top. It looks great and performs well! I read other reviews about the grates being high, they are hiogh buit it does not cook any slower! its the "restaurant" look. it gorgeous! easy to clean which is a bonus! I have yet to use the griddle, it is a bit heavy id rather just take out a frying pan. Otherwise awsome!
