Can't get burner knob to turn and now it has cracked. I also do not like how GE has the bumper guards on this appliance. The very heavy grates sit on small round bumpers. Any movement of the grates has caused numerous scratches on the stainless already. I am always extremely careful because of this, but still all scratched after 6 months.
Very disappointed with the lack of ability to simmer on this stove. It also takes a long time to get water to boil and difficult to cook pasta without putting a lid on it - water does not stay boiling.
Product knob became stuck with normal use and froze in on position. GE cafe series cooktop didn't even last 13 months without breaking. It seems nothing is ever made to last.
After 7 years of cooking on a GE Profile cooktop which we liked very much, this Cafe cooktop is an improvement. I see in some reviews that people don't like how high the grates are above the flame -- they wish they were lower and feel that food would heat and cook faster. We find the opposite and think that the higher grates actually allow the pans to capture more of the heat in the flame. When the grates are lower, the flame is actually bouncing off the bottom of the pans and the heat is lost by being deflected away from the pan bottom and going up the sides of the pan. So we think this is a much better arrangement and allows full use of the bigger burners. Highly recommend this cooktop. Just get one and you will enjoy!!
