Everything is good in this cooktop except for the poor quality of the knobs two already broke during regular cleaning,if not for the knobs I would have given it a five star.
Just what we looking for! Love the look and pot boiler and simmer options. But some cons are that one our handles broke off within 6 months and the surface scratched too easily.
Very attractive unit. This is replacing a basic black GE gas cooktop that came with the house. I installed myself and that was very straightforward. I like that the buttons are located front/center, but I can see from other reviewers that they feel this sometimes causes issues when larger pots on the front burners. Has not been an issue for me. With 5 burners, it is a lttle difficult to have a few larger pots or skillets on the cooktop...do not recall this being an issue with my older 4-burner. Guess this is to be expected when you squeeze a 5th burner into the same real estate. I like the blue background on the knob when burner running...on my last cooktop there were times when a few hours later I discovered burner was still on simmer. The knobs could have a more positive snap to them when they do hit the off position...there have been times when burner is off but knob not fully turned off,so blue light still on. Burners do seem a little less efficient that what I had on my older unit. Not sure is this is due to height of grates as others are mentioning or just lower powered burners since there are 5 now instead of 4. Only notice this when browning ground meat on front burners. Stainless surface much easier to clean from the black one i had previously...just wipe with a sponge. I do use some stainless cleaner every now and then to polish it up.
I purchased this cooktop without actually seeing it. it was recommended by my local appliance store. I was thoroughly pleased with the product, and it did exceed my expectations. although I had read the specs, and reviews, I didn't expect all the features that were included such as the high output burner for boiling or the Forge griddle. it did indeed exceed my expectations. the cooking grates are heavy and sturdy. overall, a very good product
We really loved the look of the GE CAFE in the 30inch footprint over several of the others out there. Wanted a serious 5 burner and this thing is great. Have not been able to cook as much as I would like, but everything from my morning eggs to simmer some fancier dishes to of course cooking my chili has done well. Have not used the griddle yet...to afraid of getting the back splash dirty so soon, but looks like a solid piece and has enough room to do a smaller portion of bacon and the sorts. And we are DIY, install was a breeze, just watch the clearance on the gas nipple which was not on the drawings, and you could not find the ('install over an oven') dimensions drawings online until you received the unit. Hint Hint GE.
