Well-made/Convenient/Makes great coffee!

So far, this is the bomb! I love hot, fresh coffee, but with just me and my wife, we never finish a pot of coffee, and we drink at different times of the day. The K cups aren't cheap, but it is an affordable indulgence. In fact, I actually drink less, because each cup is richer and more satisfying. It is great to be able to have different tastes/flavors whenever the mood hits us. The Platinum brewer appears well-made, looks great, and has handy features. I learned about Keurig as a convenience store that I frequented had the commercial model, and I loved the coffee it produced as well as the hot chocolate...and that was with unfiltered city water. I use bottled water only, and am pretty big on maintenance, but time will tell as far as durability goes. Bottom line, this thing makes world-class good coffee! PS The cinnamon-red model looks great in my kitchen. I plan on getting a mini for my own use at the office, where I never could justify brewing a pot of coffee for myself.
Pros: Fast, Easy to use, Stylish, Multiple Settings, Accommodates All Cup Sizes

Easy Trouble Free Coffee for 2 years
on June 5, 2011

My Keurig Platinum died today after 2 1/2 years of faithful service. I have mixed emotions because I feel like it should have lasted longer but after reading some of the reviews here, I think I was lucky to get that much time out of it. Like many others, my machine started short cupping about a month ago. Has been downhill ever since. Quite honestly, I haven't done a great job cleaning the unit - doing so only once during past year. But I do use filtered water which might help a little. That being said I guess it was only a matter of time. One interesting thing, my maching started returning hot water back to the external water tank while brewing. Not sure what that was all about but I knew I had a big problem once I noticed that. Anyway, not sure I'll get another one. Maybe it's time to go back to the good old fashioned coffee maker. I really hope Keurig improves the quality of these machines.
Pros: Multiple Settings, Easy to use
Cons: Limited Shelf Life, HARD TO CLEAN

Check your inlet screen
on September 18, 2011

Keurig needs to update the cleaning instructions to include cleaning the inlet screen where the water goes from the reservoir to the brewer. I owned this for 10 months, mostly trouble free. Lately the pump has been getting slower and slower to draw water in, then started short cupping. I thought I was doomed to be a part of the 6-12 month failure club. The directions only say to Descale. I found a YouTube vid that shows how to clean the inlet screen between the reservoir and the pump with a toothbrush. I cleaned it with a Q-TIP, and pulled what looked like slimy lint out of there. That was my problem. Draws water like mad again, no more short cups, and the cup fill level is much more consistent. While I had the reservoir off, I put a piece of black electrical tape over the blue LED lights. Now the brewer doesn't light up my entire house with that annoying glow... Just the LCD display is visible now, which I can tolerate. The tape can be undone if I chose...
Pros: Fast, Easy to use, Selection
Cons: Incomplete instructions, Fragile, HARD TO CLEAN

Number one in my book

I use this machine several times a day. I work Monday - Friday so I use it in the morning, after work and then on the weekends....let's not go there. I love it, it is very easy to use, every cup is hot, fresh and tastes great. I love the Chai Latte! My husband used it without directions and had no problems....lol. The blue backlight is very soothing and elegant. The machine is not loud as I read in some of the reviews but very quiet. I love it so much I bought one for a xmas gift for my boss. Great machine and many flavors of coffee plus hot chocolate!
Pros: Blue light is elegant, Stylish, Easy to use, Multiple Settings, Accommodates All Cup Sizes, Durable

Disappointed!! :-(

I was very skeptical about spending that much for a 1 cup at a time coffee pot. But, I know a few people that bragged on their various Keurig pots. I got the higher-end one because of the various cups sizes and large water reservoir.I used it a lot at first, but then only made 1 to 2 cups per day. I de-scaled regularly. I only had my pot about 5 months and the pump started going out producing sporatic cup sizes. I fought with it for about a month, and e-mailed customer service twice and recieved "canned" e-mails telling me to call them. So, I called them. Well, I wasn't by my pot at the time, so I couldn't trouble shoot with them. So, after work I went home and phoned again I had to have a paperclip handy and go through a process with them. Guess what? My pump was dead-Hmmm who could have told them that?? ME!! Anyway, they sent a replacement pot, but no extra k-cups or anything. Also, I have to pay my own postage to send back their pod holder so that I don't get charged for a new brewer. What's up with that? No return box with postage paid or anything for my trouble?? Don't buy this brewer unless you enjoy returns. My friend had two brewers die on her in less than a year. Very disappointed Keurig, yes I got another pot, but, I should not have to pay anything! :-(
Pros: Multiple Settings, Accommodates All Cup Sizes, Stylish, Easy to use, Fast

9 MONTH WONDER

Company was good about warranty. Claimed we did not descale it soon enough. They sent us a replacement at no charge about 7 months ago and we descaled it every 3 ..... it went from working good to shut down completely in 10 days after descale procedure. We only use filtered water. I like the convienience but the fact that I have to buy another for less than a years worth of coffee is hard to swallow.
Pros: Fast, Accommodates All Cup Sizes, Easy to use
Cons: HARD TO CLEAN

Shuts off because the pump "cavitates"
on February 16, 2011

As many have said, this generation will shut itself off. As an engineer with practical experience with water pumps, I am quite certain that the problem is the water pump cavitating. This is when little air bubbles come out of the water, making the pump's impeller ineffecient to the point where it does not pump at all. The matchine detects that it is not getting water and shuts off. As an experiment, the next time yours does not draw water, take the water reservoir and lift it up an inch and then slam it back down. This frees up the air bubbles and the pump starts working. The best thing to do, if you have to live with the machine is to put fresh water (less bubbles) in the reservoir regularly. The older model was noisier because it vibrated to keep the air bubbles from sticking in the pump area (similar to the slamming that you just tried).
Pros: Great when it works
Cons: Shut itself off
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

They replaced my Platinum - I registered
on September 23, 2011

I drink 1 cup a day, late in life coffee drinker. I registered my machine when I received it, when I had problems I wrote them down and called the number on the owner's manual. First time the needles had coffee grounds pluging the outake as I left cup in for a day and did not remove it right after brewing. However, later problems came up and I called in the problems and a replacement machine was sent and received in 3 days. Love the service and the machine. I found if I shook the FLAVORED coffee kcups the coffee was better flavored(was receommended on the box).
Pros: Fast, Durable, Register purchase, Accommodates All Cup Sizes, Stylish, Buy it, Multiple Settings, Easy to use
Cons: Different to clean
