Bought ours 2 weeks ago, it shortcupped, if you want to call it that, for the first time. Solution: Lift the handle up, close it and re-brew. The one issue on accessories is the "My K-cup", where you use a seperate unit for your own coffee. Practical, fill coffee grounds to almost top, close and brew. Issue: Coffee comes out pale, it seems not all the hot water distributes evenly through the coffee grounds. Solution: Moisten coffee while in filter before placing unit in the brewer...BAM! Resolved...perfect coffee.

Keurig Systems Plagued With Problems
on January 9, 2010

from Shakopee, MN
I must admit that I am VERY disappointed. I LOVE the concept of this machine, but apparently Keurig is plagued with consistent problems with this machine and others. I have had my B70 for less than a month and it's already defective. It started shutting itself off even before it would attempt to start to brew. At first I dismissed it to user error but during this last week, it's been shutting itself off in the middle of a brew cycle - the display goes to "not ready" and then it just completely powers off! I double checked the settings and the auto off is disabled so it's not user error. I have used bottled water from day one, so Keurig is not going to get away with telling me that I need to descale the thing. I'm also disappointed with their customer service - like other reviewers, I too am getting the run around. I called Customer Service on Thursday and after spending several minutes giving my name, address, phone number, email address, purchase date and serial number (by the way, I had already registered my unit online so I found myself wondering why I was having to provide all of this information again on the phone) I was told "gee, we sold thousands of them on QVC so our call volumes are very high right now." So, after providing all of the information to Customer Service and describing the problem I was then told that I must speak to a "technician" for further assistance. After waiting on hold for several minutes I was informed that there wasn't a technician available and assured that someone would call me back within 48 hours. How maddening! As you may suspect, it's been 24 hours and not a single attempt from a technician to contact me has been made (I have caller ID so I know that no attempt to contact me has been made). I attempted to call Keurig again Friday afternoon to see if perhaps one of these so called busy technicians was available but guess what? They all went home for the day. As you may have seen with other reviewers, their technicians have bankers hours working only Monday to Friday until 5 or 5:30pm ET. Good grief! Because I do love this machine, I'm going to give Keurig a chance, although I'm fairly confident that a replacement machine probably won't last very long either. From what I've read, most folks can't seem to get one to last more than about 1 1/2 years. As with other reviewers, this is very disappointing considering the cost of this machine. You'd expect better quality and much better customer service for the price. And if you look at other negative reviews, you'll see that this problem has gone on for years! On a positive note, I disagree with those who indicate that the coffee is weak - I've tried several of the varieties and like most of them - and I have certainly NOT had any problems with weak coffee and I have been brewing my coffee at the 9.25oz size. I simply can not understand how anyone thinks that the coffee is weak. I've had enough Starbucks coffee to tell you that the Bold and Extra Bold K-Cups live up to what you'd expect! My only other disappointment with this machine is the lack of mug warmer. I have my B70 set for the maximum temp which is 192 degrees. It's hot when it first brews, but with no mug warmer (the machine simply has a little drip tray plate) the coffee cools off quickly. To get around this problem, I purchased a mug warmer and simply replaced the drip tray with the mug warmer - that way I can brew a cup of coffee but don't feel like I have to rush back in to the kitchen to get to it before it starts cooling off. I'm quite surprised, actually, that Keurig hasn't designed a built in mug warmer. I think it would be an ingenious idea!

This platinum is 10 months old and has been dying for 2 months. Half cups, no cups, even during the cleaning cycles. The concept is great but the design and sourcing of critical components appears to be driven by cost instead of durability. The trend appears to be great reviews when new and all the poor reviews come after having used the product for a (too short )period of time. I do not know if I will replace in kind. In the interim I steer potential customers away as I am not risking my reputation on a questionable product. Come on Keurig, fix the flaws!!!!
Pros: Easy to use

Great till it dies

This unit is great when it works. Unfortunately many many many people have had units stop working within a year or two of ownership. We have a B70 platinum at home and with religious cleaning and no hard water our unit died after 16 months after making typically 4 cups a week. The concept is great, it really is, but they clearly have not worked out the bugs in their hardware. This is the type of situation where they should bite the bullet, admit they had a design flaw, fix it, and extend everyone's warranty to 3 years. A number of other models have similar issues.
Pros: Easy to use
Cons: Bad design

"Periodic malfunctions"

This Platinum Coffee maker was great for a year, then it started to malfunction. On start up it would go through the motions and noise but no water would come out. This would happen 5 or 6 times then it would start working again. It would do this every morning.
Pros: Accommodates All Cup Sizes
Cons: Does not always work

We love it, use it every day. Problem is this is our third one that has quit shortly after warranty is up. One of them quit just before warranty but I've gotten addicted to it so I just buy another one. Will have to be satisfied with "regular" coffee until our new one gets here.
Pros: Multiple Settings, Accommodates All Cup Sizes, Easy to use, Stylish, Fast
Cons: They Don't Seem To Last

We use this coffee maker everyday - maybe 5 cups a day during the week - double on the weekends. We first purchased it Sept 2009. My third one is currently being shipped to me. Short cupping is the major issue. Although this last time the machine was just shutting itself off. Customer service is ok. You have to give all your info to the person who answers then you have to be transferred to a "Specialist" who asks for the same info! I am experienced now at what needs to be cleaned - the needle (three holes), the rubber ring - clean and make sure it is 1/8 inch from the top. Really???? It is very difficult to see up there to tell if it is an 1/8 inch away! I descale the machine every three months and I have a filter in the water bin yet it still breaks down on me. I also discovered during one of my calls that when making hot chocolate, you need to run a plain cup of water. Now that is in the manual which I did read when I first bought it, but just started using hot chocolate this winter and didn't remember seeing that. Perhaps putting that on the box of hot chocolate or at least on the website when ordering would be a nice reminder. My husband came home from work yesterday and said that a co-worker said her daughter is on her third one as well. She also told him that when you are short cupped or it shuts off to lift up the water bin and soak up all the water in the hole and then put it back. Well that is what we did and it worked! Great a new one is on the way and this one is working! I think Keurig really needs to fine tune this machine or at least provide better troublshooting in the manual so we don't have to call and go through all the repetitive info. Having said all that, it is a great invention, convenient and brews great coffee (when it is working correctly) I would still recommend it to friends (and have) but I give them a list of the hints I find out to make it run better!
Pros: Accommodates All Cup Sizes, Stylish, Easy to use, Multiple Settings
Cons: Fragile

Fill pump problems - ongoing
on January 19, 2010

Great product however there is a design problem with units made in the last few months to a year (don't know how long but the current ones being sold and replacements from Keurig themselves are affected). Keurig looks to have changed the pump used to refill the heater from the reservoir (quieter than their previous pump). For whatever reason a valve after this pump is sticking closed after brewing 1 cup, shutting the system down. My first unit lasted 3 days. My 2nd unit lasted 1 month. I am using RO water so it isn't a scaling issue. Many people are having similar problems - replacement units from Keurig only lasting days to weeks. I would suggest holding off from buying one until Keurig fixes the problem for good.
Pros: Convenient- when it works
Cons: Problem in design
