Why no variable speed control?

I have been using these for years. Just had to replace the last one - it was used all up. I didn't look for anything else - this is the best air circulator out there, but the design has been changed to a 3-speed control rather than the variable. No good for me - the fan is either to low or too noisy. I had to take it back - and won't be buying these again with the current speed control design.

Fan o.k. but fan falls over too easily

The fan is o.k. but only has a crummy 3 speed control. The critical flaw with the 783 fan is that it is inherently unstable. It is top heavy and crashes to the floor if it is only slightly bumped into. When it falls, the housing breaks. This is a defectively designed fan and should not have been released.

My old variable speed fan finally bit the dust and this is the only similar product. I'm sorry to say but this is likely the last Vornado fan I will ever buy unless Vornado realizes that what made its fans sell was not kitchy fashion fans but excellent quality fans with quiet operation. The fan is noisier than my old fan and I have only three speeds to choose from and none are "just right". There you have it...it was improved when it wasn't broken and as the saying goes. Great fan, horrible stand

The stand isn't stable. It has a base and an extender and it doesn't come with any way to secure the pieces together. So if you pick up the fan the stand comes apart and the metal clangs on the floor. I love the fan but would never buy this model again. I recommend the shop model which I love.
Pros: Good Power Output
Cons: Unstable
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Too spendy for the quality

Fan worked fine for 3 years, now it only has one speed. Now I have to throw it away or constantly worry about it burning my house down. Too much money for a "short term" fan.

I have 3 Vornado and I will be purchasing another in the very near future.These fans out perform any other fan in the market place ,bar none . They are very quite, very attractive ,reasonally price, and really move some air. I've had my big one for several years ,and the guard broke and the thing was cover by the warranty.GREAT PEOPLE to deal with and a GREAT PRODUCT to serve you .If you need a GREAT FAN Vornado is the one and only as far as I'm concern .

Before purchasing this fan probably six or eight years ago, I used to buy a new fan every three or four years. Each time I hoped my new purchase would be more satisfactory than the last one. The Vornado was perhaps three times the price of any of my previous purchases, but it is by far the best fan I've ever owned. It does a better job of circulating air, and it does its job quietly. Because it is on a stand, the fan does not take up space on a table top. Nor is it like a box fan which sits on the floor and stirs up dust. I like that my fan has a rheostat speed switch which gives me infinite control. The only drawback to this fan is that the screw which attaches the fan to the stand keeps working loose and must be tightened after even limited use. But overall, this is a great product.

The Best Vortex air flow

I am very pleased with my full sized Vornado it really moves the air throughout my home.I purchased this fan years ago and it still runs like the day i bought it. Easy to clean with the front grill that comes off. The Vornado fan i purchased has the variable speed control which i really like but would recommend and purchase the 3speed . Thanks to a company that still builds quality products.
